{"id":2165132,"date":"2025-11-18T21:18:03","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T21:18:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2165132"},"modified":"2025-11-18T21:18:03","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T21:18:03","slug":"kate-mansi-talks-her-new-big-general-hospital-gig","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/kate-mansi-talks-her-new-big-general-hospital-gig\/","title":{"rendered":"Kate Mansi Talks Her New Big \u2018General Hospital\u2019 Gig"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-article-body=\"true\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The November 18 episode of <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/show\/general-hospital\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:General Hospital;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">General Hospital<\/a><\/em> has a very special director: <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/kate-mansi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Kate Mansi;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Kate Mansi<\/a>, better known onscreen as Kristina Corinthos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Mansi says she first got the directing bug years ago on <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/show\/days-of-our-lives\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Days of Our Lives;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Days of Our Lives<\/a><\/em>, where she played Abigail Deveraux. \u201cI had a storyline with <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/alison-sweeney\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Ali Sweeney;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Ali Sweeney<\/a> [Sami Brady] and James Scott [EJ DiMera], and I had been working with Ali quite a bit,\u201d she recalls. \u201cWe became good friends, and she started to observe the directors. I watched her go through that process, and then she directed her first episode that I was actually in. She was Ali Sweeney, the director, but also seeing how she transferred the attention to detail that she has as an actor to when she was directing was so inspiring to me. I remember I called my dad afterwards, and I was like, \u2018Ali Sweeney directed today, and I want to do that someday.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A motivated Mansi began shadowing the directors at <em>Days<\/em> and eventually helmed a segment herself. She\u2019s amazing.\u2019 And yes, she\u2019s amazing as a human and friend and actor, but I was really intimidated to direct her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Her nerves only grew when she heard the rest of the cast she\u2019d be working with that day \u2014 <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/genie-francis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Genie Francis;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Genie Francis<\/a> (Laura Collins), <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/maurice-benard\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Maurice Benard;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Maurice Benard<\/a> (Sonny Corinthos), and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/steve-burton\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Steve Burton;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Steve Burton<\/a> (Jason Morgan). \u201cI took a minute to sort of freak out, and then I just got right to work,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Mansi received immense support from her costars. \u201cGenie Francis looked over and saw me, and whispered to me, \u2018Are you shadowing?\u2019 And I said, \u2018Yes,\u2019 and she gave me a huge thumbs up, and it was so sweet,\u201d Mansi says. \u201cAnd afterwards, she gave me a big hug and said, \u2018We need more female directors. I\u2019m so proud of you and inspired by you that you\u2019re taking on something new. My husband\u2019s [<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/jonathan-frakes\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Jonathan Frakes;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Jonathan Frakes<\/a>] a director.\u2019 And we talked about that quite a bit, so it was just like so nice to have that the day before I did her scenes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Mansi\u2019s on-screen sister, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/kristen-vaganos\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Kristen Vaganos;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Kristen Vaganos<\/a> (Molly Lansing), proved to be her secret hype woman. \u201cShe asked if she could come up and watch me direct, and I was like, \u2018Absolutely not. I don\u2019t want to see anyone. I know it\u2019ll make me too nervous. I need to stay focused,\u2019\u201d Mansi relays. \u201cAnd it turns out, at the end of the day, she sent me all these photos and videos that she had taken. She said, \u2018I was hiding. Sometimes you came up to me, and I was hiding in a bookshelf, because I was trying to stay out of your eye line.\u2019 And then when I had lunch, she was like, \u2018I ordered you lunch downstairs.\u2019 So that was really sweet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Eventually, it was time to face the one actor she\u2019d been most anxious about. \u201cLaura Wright had the last scenes of the day, and I was admittedly nervous, and she could tell,\u201d Mansi says. \u201cAnd it was also a really important scene. There were a lot of layers. There are some intimate moments with her and Brennan [<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/chris-mckenna\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Chris McKenna;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Chris McKenna<\/a>], and I really wanted to push the boundaries on that, so I needed this passionate make-out scene. I wanted them to take it as far as they were comfortable, but I sort of hesitated and said, \u2018And then you guys can kiss, and I\u2019ll cut out whenever you\u2019re comfortable.\u2019 And Laura, which was so great, just gave me complete permission. So, I asked Frank if I could do something a little bit different, and he said yes. And then when I went back to the booth, our producer that day, Michelle Henry, and Frank, told me that Laura had called up right after blocking and said, \u2018Oh, my gosh. I love those scenes! Her blocking is amazing. I can\u2019t wait to do them.\u2019 So that really made me feel so confident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The day ended with a moment Mansi won\u2019t soon forget. \u201cLaura is someone who, I can honestly say, practices what she preaches in women supporting women, and on that day, was so gracious and brought so much of herself,\u201d Mansi continues. \u201cAnd then when I finished those scenes, she called me and said, \u2018I\u2019ve been an actor for 34 years, and I\u2019ve never played something that way. I could tell that you had some throwbacks of the old soap classics in that scene, but with a fresh take.\u2019 That meant so much to me, and I really cried. I also have to credit Ali Sweeney, because I called her when I was blocking these episodes, and I said, \u2018I just want to blow Laura Wright\u2019s mind. Please help me,\u2019 and then we sort of talked through it together. She gave me some inspiration and some tips, so that was really incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">With her first episode behind her, Mansi is eager for another shot. \u201cI would love to do it again,\u201d she says. \u201cFrank mentored me through this experience, and I could not be more grateful for his generosity of time and belief in me.
