OVERLAND PARK, Kan. \u2014 Homeowners Associations on the eastern edge of the city are coming out against the idea of a Kansas City Royals stadium going in at the northwest corner of 119th and Nall.<\/p>\n
In May, the Royals announced an affiliate of theirs bought the mortgage on the old Sprint campus, now known as Aspiria.<\/p>\n

HOA President Jeff Hurt told FOX4 he hopes city council members pay attention to how the homeowners in his area feel about this issue.<\/p>\n \u201cFrankly, I have not heard one individual be in favor of it,\u201d Hurt said in an interview with FOX4 at his home Tuesday. \u201cI\u2019ve had no one in my neighborhood [say that]. Now we\u2019re going to have our HOA annual meeting tomorrow night, and I\u2019m going to ask. I will say, \u2018Folks, if you\u2019re in favor, tell me why. Convince me.’\u201d<\/p>\n Hurt was giving his personal opinion on the matter at his home because of the upcoming gathering.<\/p>\n \u201cBut I will tell you over the course of the last four or five or six months, I\u2019ve had at least 15 people in our little neighborhood of 69 homes say, \u2018No Way Jose,’\u201d he continued. \u201cI\u2019m sorry. We just don\u2019t want it. I\u2019ve had no one say, \u2018Oh no. This would be a great thing for our neighborhood.’\u201d<\/p>\n The Royals wouldn\u2019t comment Tuesday, but their team\u2019s confirmed they\u2019re considering three sites, one in Overland Park, one in North Kansas City, and one in the downtown area of Kansas City. Where specifically in each of those three cities the Royals are looking to build, the team hasn\u2019t said since the failed vote in April of 2024.<\/p>\n Mark Kelly is the President of the Hawthorne Place Homes Association. He has 81 households in his HOA. Kelly says he knows the entity he leads is against the stadium going in at 119th and Nall.<\/p>\n Download WDAF+ for Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cNot yet, but we are concerned,\u201d Kelly said when asked if this issue keeps him up at night. \u201cI know the people in my community are concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n Kansas Republican State Senate President Ty Masterson told FOX4 in October that he was expecting a proposal from the Royals<\/a><\/strong> at their Legislative Coordinating Council meeting either in late November or early December of this year.<\/p>\n Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
