Zach Bryan shared his thoughts on mental health Tuesday evening, in hopes that his message could help others who feel alone and are \u201cstruggling to find words when they\u2019re down on their luck.\u201d<\/p>\n
His message arrived after a year of controversy including his messy, public breakup with BFFs\u00a0podcaster Brianna \u201cChickenfry\u201d LaPaglia<\/a> that sparked\u00a0intense fan scrutiny online, an altercation<\/a> with\u00a0Gavin Adcock<\/a> after Bryan<\/a>\u00a0scaled a fence<\/a>\u00a0at the Born & Raised Festival to confront the singer, and criticism from MAGA and even the federal Department of Homeland Security over his song bashing ICE<\/a>.<\/p>\n More from Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n In his note on social media, Bryan said that after 20 days of riding his motorcycle and camping across the country \u201clooking for a solution,\u201d he ended up in a Seattle parking lot and realized: \u201cI really need some f***ing help.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBeing in the military for a decade and then thrown into a spotlight that I hadn\u2019t fully comprehended the scope of, had some subconscious effects on me as a person,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI was not content, but I also feared showing weakness because that\u2019s not who I am or how I was raised. To charge forward and never settle was the motto.\u201d<\/p>\n The singer said that he found himself stuck in \u201cperpetual discontent\u201d that led him to drinking \u201cbecause there was a consistent black hole in me always needing its void filled.\u201d<\/p>\n He then appeared to reference his recent controversies, while also revealing hardships within his inner circle: \u201cI have been lied about and doxxed on the internet, I was helping a close friend through a severe mental break, one of my other best friends was put into a coma by a motorcycle accident, and I was touring the country playing five, sometimes six, nights a week.\u201d<\/p>\n Bryan said that he began experiencing \u201cearth-shattering panic attacks\u201d and paralyzing anxiety. Eventually, he made the \u201cconscious decision to do something about my toxic relationship with booze and how I cope with major life changes\u201d and found a therapist. The musician shared that he hasn\u2019t \u201ctouched alcohol\u201d for almost two months,\u201d which is something he had to do for his \u201cpersonal clarity\u201d in order to \u201csee the world objectively.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cMy family supported every step I took,\u201d he added, before mentioning his new girlfriend, Samantha Leonard. \u201cConversations about the future, kids one day, my health and Sammy\u2019s happiness made me prioritize not only myself, but my entire family.\u201d<\/p>\n Bryan ended his note by saying, \u201cI feel great, I feel content, I feel whole.\u201d He pointed out, \u201cThere is nothing to get me by anymore,\u201d and said, \u201cIf you or any of your friends are too tough, too scared, or too stubborn to reach out, know that the most stubborn dumba** on the planet did and didn\u2019t regret it.\u201d<\/p>\n While he doesn\u2019t believe in \u201cabsolutes,\u201d Bryan said that maybe one day he\u2019ll learn to \u201ccontrol\u201d his habits, but for now, \u201cI just want to say it is okay to be weak at times and need help.\u201d<\/p>\n Best of Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n Sign up for RollingStone’s Newsletter<\/a>.
