It\u2019s raining men!<\/p>\n

Vanity Fair<\/i><\/a> has revealed its iconic \u201cHollywood Issue\u201d will controversially feature an all-male ensemble this year.<\/p>\n

The news-making twist is the first Hollywood Issue overseen by the magazine\u2019s new editor, Mark Guiducci. A Princeton grad, previously of Vogue<\/i>, the 37-year-old was hired in June and promised to shift VF\u2019s<\/i> focus to \u201cmoney, politics, and style.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Hollywood Issue, viewed<\/a> as a \u201cyearly doorstop seen as the starting gun of Oscar campaigning season,\u201d will hit news stands next month.<\/p>\n

There will be three cover variations, including one featuring Jeremy Allen White, A$AP Rocky, Glen Powell, LaKeith Stanfield, and Callum Turner\u2014but none featuring a single woman.<\/p>\n

Vanity Fair<\/i> said that it seeks to highlight a \u201cnew generation of leading men captivating audiences and propelling cultural conversation at a moment of industry transformation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not everyone is a fan.<\/p>\n

The New York Times<\/i><\/a>, which interviewed Guiducci, noted in a critique that there is no shortage of attention on men in showbiz. Its headline read, \u201cMen? In Hollywood? You Don\u2019t Say.\u201d<\/p>\n

A commenter<\/a> questioned under Vanity Fair<\/i>\u2019s Instagram post revealing its cover, \u201cWe were not hearing it for the boys before?\u201d<\/p>\n

Another asked, \u201cWait, it\u2019s all guys this year? Oh, OK.\u201d<\/p>\n

Guiducci views the edition as an opportunity to highlight how male movie stars have changed since Hollywood\u2019s heyday.<\/p>\n

Vanity Fair\u2019s<\/i> Ottessa Moshfegh wrote of the supposed shift, \u201cToday\u2019s leading men aren\u2019t unreachable idols. They feel like real people, very special people who hover just half an inch beyond our grasp.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Times<\/i> noted that many of the big players in this year\u2019s Hollywood Issue\u2014on both sides of the camera\u2014are millennials.<\/p>\n

\u201cGuided by an editor, photographer, and stylist who are all under 40 (and often wearing clothes designed by men around this age), the photo shoot simmers with an early aughts energy,\u201d writes the Times<\/i>\u2019 Jacob Gallagher.<\/p>\n

Ahmed and Garfield, each 42, are the only subjects older than 40. Dickinson and Mescal, each 29, are tied for the youngest of the bunch. All are millennials.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe scenes, laid out as a collage of snapshots, feel more \u2018Dawson\u2019s Creek,\u2019 than West Egg,\u201d writes Gallagher. \u201cThe lack of women makes some images come off a touch homoerotic. (A conspicuously-placed oar only underscores that feeling.)\u201d<\/p>\n

Vanity Fair<\/i> has highlighted rising stars in its Hollywood Issue each year since 1995, following the success of its first Oscars party the previous year.<\/p>\n

Highlighting a single sex is not entirely new. Its first Hollywood Issue featured all women, including Nicole Kidman, Angela Bassett, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Uma Thurman.<\/p>\n

Controversy over the 2025 Hollywood Issue is not Guiducci\u2019s first headache at the Cond\u00e9 Nast outlet.<\/p>\n

Described as being Anna Wintour\u2019s handpicked successor to take over the magazine, he also ruffled feathers in August by suggesting that Melania Trump be featured on a cover.<\/p>\n

The following month, criticism returned when Robert F. Kennedy\u2019s digital lover, Olivia Nuzzi, was hired as its \u201cWest Coast Editor,\u201d despite her being fired from New York<\/i> magazine for having an affair with a politician she covered.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
