As Guillermo del Toro<\/a><\/strong>‘s new film, Frankenstein<\/a>, gets appreciation from fans after its release in theaters and on Netflix recently, fans are taking a moment to bring attention to a lesser-known movie from the same director.<\/p>\n People are spotlighting the 2015 Gothic horror movie Crimson Peak as one to watch, calling it “criminally underrated.” HELLO!<\/a> recently took a moment to celebrate the film, with website director Kate Thomas<\/strong> calling it a “forgotten masterpiece.”<\/p>\n “The costumes and setting were spectacular \u2013 just like in the new Frankenstein \u2013 and the shots of the crumbling mansion are visually stunning. Plus, Jessica Chastain<\/a><\/strong>‘s turn as Tom Hiddleston’s controlling sister is genuinely chilling,” Thomas went on. “This film is criminally underrated and definitely worth a watch for anyone wanting something dark and Gothic.”<\/p>\n The movie is a mix of horror and Gothic romance, starring Mia Wasikowska<\/strong> as Edith Cushing, an American heiress and author who meets Sir Thomas Sharpe, played by Tom Hiddleston<\/a><\/strong>, and quickly falls in love, being whisked away to his mysterious manor in England. The whole time, Thomas’ sister, Lucille, played by Chastain, is by their side.<\/p>\n While staying at her new home, Edith starts to have strange and ghostly experiences that urge her to explore the house and uncover the mystery of the Sharpe family. Another key character in the movie is Dr. Alan McMichael, played by Charlie Hunnam<\/strong>, who is a childhood friend of Edith’s, concerned about her and her relationship with Thomas.<\/p>\n Crimson Peak is getting more attention in 2025 thanks to its stylistic similarities to del Toro’s newest movie, Frankenstein, with the same art director, Brandt Gordon<\/strong>, and costume designer, Kate Hawley<\/strong>, working on both movies.<\/p>\n One fan of Crimson Peak wrote on X, “i love that frankenstein is getting more people to watch crimson peak \ud83d\udda4,” leading many to praise the movie in the comments, writing things like, “my favourite movie ever- she needs more love.”<\/p>\n Others said, “They’re finally waking up to PEAK cinema,” “Crimson peak has one of the most beautiful, dark gothic imagery in a film that i haven\u2019t seen since Sleepy Hollow,” and “Crimson peak is a masterpiece and I\u2019m glad it\u2019s getting all the attention it\u2019s been deserving of.”<\/p>\n A new fan wrote, “Watched crimson peak for the first time two days ago and it was so beautiful \ud83d\ude2d.”<\/p>\n “So happy to know this. It’s one of my most favorite of GDT’s films, and I find it so underrated. The trailers presented the movie as a sort of “haunted house”-style story, insinuating that there would be jump scares and other classic horror features. They did very little to showcase the relationships at the heart of the story.<\/p>\n In an interview del Toro had with Vulture<\/a> last year, the director said as much, declaring, “The thing that will always, pun intended, haunt that movie is that it was sold as a horror movie.”<\/p>\n He recalled what happened, saying, “I remember distinctly, when we had the meetings [about promotion], they were all targeted toward getting the horror audience for the opening weekend. And I knew we were doomed!”<\/p>\n “I was saying, ‘You should promote the romance, and you should promote the mystery.
