<\/a><\/p>\n New Irish Music \u2013 Cro\u00edthe \u2013 A Brief Respite<\/strong> Cro\u00edthe are an Irish band from Dublin consisting of Caod\u00e1n Connolly (vocals and guitar), Ben Byrne (guitar), David \u201cDJ\u201d Barron (bass), and Keevy McGowan (drums).\u00a0 They have recently released this EP, A Brief Respite.<\/p>\n It opens with Feed My Head, the most upbeat song here, which sounds like, of all things, a heavy version of Dancing in the Dark by Bruce Springsteen, yet it actually works!\u00a0 The Diver, which follows, is even better, noisy and malevolent like the darkest bits of Whipping Boy.\u00a0 A lot of new Irish bands have been compared with the mighty Whipping Boy, but this one really does measure up.\u00a0 I Heard, I Saw is more elegiac, featuring some wonderful guitar work, while the dark, pounding \u201cThe Lovers\u201d has echoes of the Murder Capital.
