An inseparable set of twins that rose to fame as dancers and singers in the \u201950s recently has died the same way they rose to fame \u2014 together. <\/p>\n
Alice<\/a> and Ellen Kessler<\/a>, German twin sisters whose talents made them popular throughout Europe, died by joint assisted suicide on Monday, according to the German Society for Humane Dying<\/a>. <\/p>\n The Kessler twins died in Gr\u00fcnwald, a Munich suburb, at the age of 89.<\/p>\n \u201cThe decisive factor is likely to have been the desire to die together on a specific date,\u201d DGHS spokesperson Wega Wetzel told celebrity.land<\/a>. \u201cTheir desire to die was well-considered, long-standing, and free from any psychiatric crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n Assisted dying was legalized<\/a> in Germany after a 2020 court ruling. <\/p>\n Ellen Kessler revealed to a German tabloid<\/a> last year that the pair would be cremated to have their ashes in the same urn as their mother, Elsa, and dog, Yello. <\/p>\n \u201cOur life has been characterized by discipline,\u201d Ellen Kessler told the tabloid. \u201cNow we are approaching the end. We won\u2019t live much longer. So we must approach the end with discipline.\u201d<\/p>\n The twins \u2014 who performed with major acts like Fred Astaire, Frank Sinatra and Harry Belafonte \u2014 were born in Nazi Germany in 1936.
