Denny Matthews has been broadcasting Royals games since the franchise\u2019s first season in 1969, and he\u2019s been in the booth for innumerable big moments.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

That includes calling opening day games, World Series contests, no-hitters and three home-run games since Kauffman Stadium opened in 1973.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

But nothing topped his experience Saturday at the ballpark.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Although the Major League Baseball season ended more than two weeks ago, Matthews married fianc\u00e9e<\/a>, Amy Baker, at the K on Saturday. It was one day after Matthews\u2019 83rd birthday as he tied the knot for the first time.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a lot of things to relate to, the love of sports and both of us having played,\u201d Matthews told me earlier this month. \u201cIt\u2019s a nice association, it\u2019s a nice companionship, it\u2019s a great friend. It\u2019s a love, it\u2019s a marriage, it\u2019s a life, and it\u2019s all those things that follow.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Matthews\u2019 fellow Royals broadcasters were at the wedding, including Ryan Lefebvre, Jake Eisenberg, Joel Goldberg, Rex Hudler and Jeff Montgomery.<\/p>\n
