Jonathan Groff\u2019s time as Bobby Darin is coming to a close.<\/p>\n
Groff is set to for his final performance of Just in Time on March 29, 2026. In the Broadway show, which began previews March 31, 2025, Groff portrays the legendary singer-actor throughout his life and rise to fame at the\u00a0Circle in the Square Theatre\u00a0that\u2019s transformed into a 1950s and \u201960s-style nightclub. However, even though Groff\u2019s run will be over in March, the jukebox musical isn\u2019t, as Groff\u2019s replacement will be announced at a later date.<\/p>\n
More from The Hollywood Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n The actor developed the show over eight years, and went to visit the Circle in the Square Theatre the day after he won his first Tony Award in 2024 for Merrily We Roll Along, where he starred with Daniel Radcliffe<\/a>, who also took home his first Tony for his role in the musical.<\/p>\n At the top of the show in Just in Time, the actor introducing himself, saying, \u201cHi, I\u2019m Jonathan Groff.\u201d He spoke to The Hollywood Reporter <\/a>earlier this year about how this show has helped him connect with the audience. \u201cIt felt like the opportunity to tell the story of Bobby Darin\u2019s life in front of a live audience, that\u2019s where he was, at the height of his powers. That is the place to tell his story,\u201d he said. \u201cEven removing the artifice of character at the very beginning and really establishing this connection between performer and audience was the most effective way to celebrate what he did to a room when he was in it. So I wanted to start the show as myself, and we spent years trying to figure out how we would make that work and how we would it.\u201d<\/p>\n The Mindhunter star also spoke about the extensive training he\u2019s had to endure to maintain his stamina, as the show requires a lot of dancing. \u201cShannon Lewis, our amazing choreographer, she [worked with] me three times a week for 10 weeks before the first day of rehearsal. We were in the studio, and she taught me her physical warm-up, which is a 30-minute warm-up, which I still do every day before the show, to get my body ready,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s like training for a marathon physically, this role, and I\u2019m learning a lot about my body, and I\u2019m in the best shape I\u2019ve ever been in my whole life.\u201d<\/p>\n The role earned him his fourth Tony nomination and he was nominated alongside his former Glee co-star Darren Criss, who ultimately won<\/a>.<\/p>\n Just in Time features a book by Warren Leight (Side Man) and Isaac Oliver (Intimacy Idiot).\u00a0It was developed and directed by Tony Award winner Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge), and also stars Sarah Hyland, Sadie Dickerson, Michele Pawk, Joe Barbara, Emily Bergl, Lance Roberts, Caesar Samayoa, Claire Camp, Julia Grondin, Valeria Yamin, John Treacy Egan, Tari Kelly, Matt Magnusson, Khori Michelle Petinaud and Larkin Reilly.<\/p>\n Best of The Hollywood Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n Sign up for THR’s Newsletter<\/a>.
