As we get closer to Black Friday and Christmas, the focus will be on box sets and reissues. However, there\u2019s still something to talk about for New Music Friday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Singles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Almost Monday, <em>Lost<\/em> (Hollywood Records\/Universal Music Canada)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a trio from San Diego who has made some decent progress over the last 18 months or so, performing at major festivals including two versions of Lollapalooza (Berlin and Paris), Pinkpop, and Outside Lands. Big Wreck, <em>Dog with a Gun<\/em> (Sonic Unyon\/Universal Music Canada)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Big Wreck\u2019s <em>The Rest of the Story<\/em> album has been out for a couple of weeks now and the singles keep coming. This latest track ticks all the boxes: big riffs, big drums, big vocals. The Lumineers, <em>So Long<\/em> (Dualtone\/MNRK)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Lumineers continue to mine tracks from the <em>Automatic<\/em> album, which was released back in February. They\u2019ve also got <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-BuMk179RQs&amp;t=500s\">this hour-long film<\/a> about the things they\u2019ve been doing this year. The Pretty Reckless, Taylor Momsen\u2019s Pretty Reckless Christmas EP (Fearless Records\/Concord)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I was absolutely buried with new Christmas releases this week, but 99.5% of them were aimed at country, AC, pop, or Christian audiences. In other words, none of them rocked\u2013except this one from Taylor and The Pretty Wreckless. Listen, 25 years ago, she played Cindy Lou Who in the Jim Carrey version of <em>How the Grinch Stole Christmas,<\/em> so it\u2019s about time, you know?<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Pretty Reckless - Christmas Is Killing Me  (Official Visualizer)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dFpeu2GWJxk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><strong>2. The Rheostatics, <em>Great Lakes Suite<\/em> (Cordova Bay Records)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Rheostatics\u2019 welcome return features a tribute to the largest repositories of fresh water anywhere in the world. That\u2019s a big project, so they enlisted some big help: Alex Lifeson, Laurie Anderson, Kevin Hearn of Barenaked Ladies, Tanya Tagaq, and, surprisingly, someone named Gord Downie.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Rheostatics - The Inland Sea\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oJ0Vv_v0IVQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><strong>3. The Salt Collective, <em>A Brief History of Blindness<\/em> (Propeller Sound Recordings)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is the second album from St\u00e9phane Sch\u00fcck, a French songwriter-guitarist who likes to bring in some international help. This record features Aimee Mann, Mike Mills of REM, Andy Partridge of XTC, and a bunch of others.
