A sequel 20 years in the making is on the way.<\/p>\n
Thomas Bezucha, the writer and director of The Family Stone<\/strong>, is working on a follow-up to the 2005 holiday hit.<\/p>\n Bezucha told celebrity.land<\/a> he began writing the sequel before the recent death of the film\u2019s star, Diane Keaton. The new film is intended to honor Keaton\u2019s character, Sybil Stone.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been haunted by the loss of Sybil for months now while I worked on it, and so this was a blow on a tender bruise already,\u201d Bezucha said. \u201cMentally, I\u2019ve been spending time in that house where I\u2019ve been missing her for a while already.\u201d<\/p>\n He added that Keaton\u2019s passing has motivated him to \u201cdo a good job by the rest of the cast\u201d and \u201chonor her even more.\u201d<\/p>\n No additional details about the sequel have been released.<\/p>\n The original movie follows Meredith Morton, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, as she visits her boyfriend Everett Stone\u2019s quirky, bohemian family for Christmas. Chaos ensues, underscored by the matriarch\u2019s terminal illness. Keaton portrayed Sybil Stone, the family\u2019s matriarch.<\/p>\n Other stars in the 2005 film include Dermot Mulroney, Rachel McAdams, Elizabeth Reaser and Craig T. Nelson.<\/p>\n The Family Stone<\/strong> was a box office success, grossing about $92 million worldwide against an estimated $18 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo.<\/p>\n
