Shay Mitchell<\/a> is speaking out for the first time after facing backlash<\/a> earlier this month for releasing a skin care line geared at kids 3 and up.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The \u201cPretty Little Liars\u201d<\/a> star opened up about the controversy her new line of products, called \u201cRini,\u201d generated during an appearance on the \u201cToday\u201d show on Wednesday.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI was a little surprised, but I think anything that involves kids, there should be a conversation around it,\u201d Mitchell said during a sit-down with Jenna Bush Hager and her guest co-host Olivia Munn.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI have a lot of questions, as I\u2019m sure you both do, when anything involves our kids \u2014 with what they eat and what they put on their skin,\u201d Mitchell said. \u201cSo I didn\u2019t think this would be anything different.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The \u201cPretty Little Liars\u201d star and Beis founder said that her idea for the new line of skin care \u2015 which consists of hydrating masks aimed at kids 3 and above \u2015 came to her because of her own two girls: Atlas, 6, and Rome, 3.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n She said that there \u201cwasn\u2019t anything out there I felt safe enough putting on their skin when they wanted to share in on this moment that I do.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Mitchell also insisted that the masks are not \u201ca beauty thing.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cKids don\u2019t look at masks and think about fixing, they think about it being a cooling sensation and a shared moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n She also added that she doesn\u2019t \u201cthink masks are necessary for kids.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI also don\u2019t think masks are necessary for us. But are they great for added comfort and extra hydration? Yes \u2015 and that\u2019s all it is,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n On Mitchell\u2019s Instagram page \u2015 where she previewed the products \u2015 the majority of the comments remain negative. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThis seems like a new \u2018Black Mirror\u2019 episode,\u201d one commenter wrote<\/a>, name-dropping the dystopian Netflix<\/a> show. \u201c\u2018Skin Care for Toddlers.\u2019 Seriously?@shaymitchell do better.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n But other parents have expressed that their children are already interested in skin care, and think it\u2019s nice to have kid-safe products available.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cNot me cutting eye nose and mouth holes in his water wipes so he can feel included in my get fancy routine,\u201d one parent wrote. \u201cNeed these asap.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
