A few months after releasing her first sitcom, stand-up comedian Leanne Morgan is back on Netflix with a new comedy special.<\/p>\n
In the hourlong special, which was filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina, and hit Netflix earlier this month, the 60-year-old comedian reflects on everything from raising her children to her late rise to fame.<\/p>\n
Morgan spends the last 15 minutes of her special detailing her skiing woes \u2014 including falling off a ski lift in Alta, Utah \u2014 and sharing why her faith is so important.<\/p>\n
Morgan, who grew up in a town of 500 on the border of Kentucky and Tennessee, considers herself to be a beach person.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf I hit it big someday, I would love to be at the beach,\u201d she said. \u201cBut Chuck Morgan doesn\u2019t believe in joy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Early on in Morgan\u2019s marriage, her husband, Chuck, wanted her to learn how to ski. Although Chuck Morgan is a man who \u201crolls on a budget,\u201d he bought her a nice ski outfit for the occasion.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll that stuff is very expensive, so I had to wear that for 15 years,\u201d she said matter-of-factly. \u201cAnd I did not keep my weight down.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her first adventure on the slopes was in Beaver Creek, Colorado, where she joined a group of fellow skiing newbies in a class taught by a Mitt Romney look-alike.<\/p>\n
On the mountain, Morgan said, she wanted to be the \u201cyoung, cute, fun, ski girl.\u201d But a cold front derailed her plans. Snow was blowing sideways and Morgan couldn\u2019t see her hand in front of her.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd Mitt looked at all of us and said, \u2018If we get down …\u2019\u201d Morgan recalled with a look of horror. \u201c\u2018If we get down this mountain, I\u2019m going to have to check y\u2019alls noses for frostbite. It\u2019s 19 below zero.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I remember thinking, \u2018Fun? What are we doing up here?\u2019\u201d the comedian said in disbelief.<\/p>\n
The next time Morgan went skiing, her kids were ages 3, 5 and 7.<\/p>\n
\u201cChuck Morgan came to me and said, \u2018I\u2019m going to take y\u2019all from Tennessee to Colorado for a week for snow skiing.\u2019 And the only thing that I can compare that to would be maybe working in a coal mine,\u201d Morgan said. \u201cI\u2019ve never worked in a coal mine, but it looks bad.\u201d<\/p>\n
Due to her husband\u2019s penchant for budgeting, the family rented an apartment three towns away from the mountain. They woke up the kids abominably early in the morning to get dressed and ready for the ski lift.<\/p>\n
Morgan reflected on the grueling process of lining up her three kids and dressing them in layers while they were still half asleep and flopping around.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy the time I got \u2018em dressed, I felt like I had hoed an acre of tobacco,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Despite the rocky beginning, Morgan said her family tries to go skiing every year because her husband and children love it so much.<\/p>\n
The 60-year-old comedian, who was 59 at the time she filmed the special, said her skiing adventures ended at the age of 47 following a trip to Alta, Utah.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had on that tight outfit,\u201d she said, referring to the one-and-only ski outfit her husband purchased years earlier.<\/p>\n
Although Morgan said she \u201chad every intention of skiing that year,\u201d something went wrong on the ski lift and she had a change of heart. She fell off the lift and into the snow, helpless as the chairs passed her by.<\/p>\n
After some time, she said \u201ca long-haired boy\u201d that worked at the resort approached her.<\/p>\n
\u201cGet up,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know how I got up. I don\u2019t remember that. I feel like I blanked out, because I don\u2019t remember a thing,\u201d Morgan said, adding that her son witnessed the whole scene. \u201cI somehow got to the top of that mountain. And he looked at me and he goes, \u2018You\u2019re OK. … You\u2019re OK, Mom. Let\u2019s get down this mountain.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I went, \u2018No! God spoke to me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Her son didn\u2019t buy it, but his mom was adamant.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2018It wasn\u2019t an audible voice. It was in my heart,\u2019\u201d she told him. \u201cHe said, \u2018Get off these things, Leanne.\u2019 That\u2019s what he said. And then I think he said, \u2018Go sit down at that pizza shack for the rest of the week.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Morgan spends the last few minutes of her comedy special sharing her faith \u2014 and the emotional roller coaster that is getting her family ready for church each Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cChuck Morgan and I were both raised in church. And I wanted to raise my children in church and he did, too. And I\u2019m not saying that to y\u2019all to say, \u2018I raised my children in church,\u2019\u201d Morgan said with a snooty air.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m saying to y\u2019all that we are so dysfunctional. We are so messed up and dysfunctional that I don\u2019t know what would\u2019ve happened to us if we had not had the Lord,\u201d she continued to a round of cheers and applause. \u201cI mean it. Hallelujah, we have the Lord.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
