Sofia Vergara has joined the cast of \u201cThumb,\u201d a dark comedy from director Daina Oniunas-Pusi\u0107. The Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated actress is part of an ensemble that includes such previously announced cast members as Milly Alcock, Awkwafina and Kate McKinnon.<\/p>\n
Vergara is best known for her breakout role as Gloria, the second wife of a wealthy businessman, in \u201cModern Family.\u201d She also was in the voice cast of \u201cDespicable Me 4\u201d and most recently starred as a drug lord in the Netflix crime drama \u201cGriselda,\u201d which she also executive produced. Vergara earned Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for \u201cGriselda\u201d and was an Emmy nominee for \u201cModern Family.\u201d Her film credits include \u201cHot Pursuit,\u201d \u201cThe Smurfs,\u201d \u201cKoati,\u201d \u201cThe Emoji Movie,\u201d \u201cChasing Papi\u201d and \u201cChef.\u201d<\/p>\n

Written by Cesar Vitale, the film is about a lonely young woman (Alcock) who mistakenly receives a severed thumb in the mail. According to the official plot description, \u201cshe makes it her life\u2019s obsession to return it to the hand it once belonged to, putting her on a collision course that will upend her world forever.\u201d No word yet on what Vergara\u2019s role will be in the picture.<\/p>\n Akiva Goldsman and Greg Lessans are producing \u201cThumb\u201d for Weed Road Pictures, and Richard Saperstein, Brooke Saperstein, Beau Turpin, and Annie Saperstein for Bluestone Entertainment alongside Jack Heller under his Assemble Media banner. CAA Media Finance is handling domestic sales.<\/p>\n Executive producers include Frank Mayor, Terrol Cummins, Arvind Gopwani, Harrison Moore, Caitlin de Lisser-Ellen, Darren Goldberg and Thomas Whelan.<\/p>\n Bluestone Entertainment and Weed Road Pictures are also developing \u201cBasketful of Heads,\u201d a darkly comedic horror comic series published by DC\u2019s Hill House, with Natasha Lyonne attached to star.
