On the Dopey <\/em>podcast, the bluegrass musician said he\u2019s been digging through his mom\u2019s work and setting it to music in the months since her death from an accidental overdose<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n \n\tBilly Strings<\/a> revealed that he wants to set his late mother\u2019s poetry to music for a potential new album during an extensive interview about drug use and addiction on the Dopey <\/em>podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n \n\tStrings\u2019 mother, Debra, died earlier this year<\/a> from an accidental overdose. The bluegrass musician has discussed his parents\u2019 drug use and battles with addiction, as well as his own, in interviews<\/a> over the years. And on Dopey<\/em> he admitted he didn\u2019t realize his parents were using again when his mom died.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cAfter I lost my mom, my whole idea of addiction is different,\u201d Strings said. \u201cI thought I knew what it really was, and I really had no idea\u2026 It\u2019s not her fault. She lost a battle, and I fucking miss her so much, and I love her so much.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tStrings then recited a poem his mom wrote, which he said he read for the first time after her death. When Dopey <\/em>host David Manheim asked Strings if he would consider setting his mom\u2019s poetry to music, the musician replied, \u201cOh yeah, that\u2019s kinds of the goal. We talked about it a lot \u2014 she was gonna make the next record cover with her art, and we were gonna make songs out of this stuff. We were gonna try to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n
