lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSo the guitarist regards the Friday (Nov. 21) arrival of <em>One More Time,<\/em> a five-song EP in collaboration with British rocker <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/aerosmith\/\">Yungblud<\/a>, as nothing short of \u2014 as the song says \u2014 amazing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI think it\u2019s great,\u201d Perry tells <em>Billboard<\/em> about the project, whose first single, \u201cMy Only Angel,\u201d went No. 1 on <em>Billboard\u2019<\/em>s Hot Rock Songs chart and hit No. 7 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart. \u201cIt\u2019s certainly nothing we had planned. We really didn\u2019t. It was pretty traumatic, what happened; we\u2019ve had to cancel gigs before, but this was a big one. This was arguably the biggest tour we had ever mounted, and to have it collapse like that\u2026 was heartbreaking. It was almost more than we could get over. After the dust settled and we realized touring wasn\u2019t gonna be part of our repertoire, it\u2019s also a time where (we realized) there\u2019s so many other ways to be creative in this entertainment business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn the wake of all that, the unexpected Yungblud hook-up came out of a confluence of connections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe Peace Out tour played just three dates in September 2023 before being postponed due to Tyler\u2019s vocal cord injury. It was rescheduled to begin a year later but was formally scrapped in August 2024, with Aerosmith announcing their retirement from touring. Larry Rudolph, who manages Aerosmith and Tyler for 724 Management, recalls that after that, \u201cJoe called me and said, \u2018I expected to be on tour this whole time. Now I\u2019m sitting around in Florida, bored. If anything comes up for me to play on, I\u2019m open.\u2019 I said, \u2018Cool, I\u2019ll ask around a little bit.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs fate would have it, Rudolph\u2019s son Gavin, who\u2019s also part of 724, was friendly with Yungblud (real name Dominic Harrison) and his manager, Tommas Amby of Locomotion Entertainment. He learned Yungblud was a big Aerosmith fan who was up to collaborate with Perry \u2013 though Perry acknowledges he didn\u2019t know a great deal about the upstart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt was like, \u2018Hey, this guy wants to come over and hook up with you and get in the studio. It was vague,\u201d Perry remembers. \u201cI started watching some of his performances, and people were talking about him. I\u2019d heard his name somewhere; he\u2019s been at it for awhile in Europe, so I recognized his name but I really didn\u2019t put it together.\u201d Perry says Yungblud\u2019s cover of Kiss\u2019 \u201cI Was Made For Lovin\u2019 You\u201d from <em>The Fall Guy<\/em> soundtrack and a few videos on YouTube led him to feel \u201cthis guy bears further looking into.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\"\/>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCuriosity helped spur the meet-up as well. \u201cWhen I heard they wanted to come over and hang out for a couple of days and maybe get something for his next album\u2026I figured it would be fun to work with him, see how this generation is actually recording and how they work. The whole thing was just interesting. I had time, and they came in and we definitely hit it off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tYungblud and his producer Matt Schwartz \u2014 who helmed the high-energy EP and co-wrote its four original songs \u2014 met with Perry in Sarasota, Flor., during the summer of 2024 and worked on a handful of tracks that have yet to be revealed. But the session laid the groundwork for what was to come. \u201cWe spent a few days with (Perry) and had a great time, did a few bits,\u201d Schwartz says. \u201cIt was a dream come true for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tPerry recalls that, \u201cIt was like the first time I met Post Malone; I just got a vibe, \u2018This kid\u2019s got it.\u2019 He definitely has an energy, and he loves rock n\u2019 roll. He loves that classic thing, and he loves being on stage and cutting loose\u2026We only had three or four days to get to know each other, but I heard what I needed to hear. It was like, \u2018Oh, yeah, next time you have some time\u2026\u2019 and the next thing was we had these songs on our hands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tRudolph says Yungblud next pitched having Perry and Tyler join him on \u201cHello Heaven, Hello,\u201d the lead track and first single from <em>Idols, <\/em>which is <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/lists\/grammy-nominations-2026-full-list\/rock-metal-alternative-music\/\">up for best rock album<\/a> at the 2026 Grammys. Perry had informed Tyler about his experience with Yungblud in Sarasota, and all concerned gathered during mid-May at Johnny Depp\u2019s studio in Los Angeles. \u201cIt was like a love fest,\u201d Rudolph reports. \u201cOnce it was the three of them in the room, every was calling me, saying, \u2018It\u2019s magic. These guys are just loving each other, and now they\u2019re working on new material.\u2019 They sent me what became \u2018My Only Angel\u2019 and I was like, \u2018Holy sh-t! That\u2019s a legitimate hit,\u2019 and then they wrote one or two others and there was a conversation about maybe putting this all together as a standalone project,\u201d which evolved into <em>One More Time<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSchwartz, meanwhile, confirms that, \u201cWe just got on like a house on fire. Dom\u2019s very energetic, like ADD energetic\u2026He and (Tyler) are very complementary. When we did the first session, Dom was really encouraging him \u2014 \u2018Come on, let\u2019s do this together, and that!\u2019 It was infectious. And Steven just went in and did it and everyone in the room was, clapping, like, \u2018Oh. My. God.\u2019 Things just happened really quickly, and organically. Everything just landed. Every idea we had came out on this EP, which is rare. We were just inspired by their presence, their aura, whatever you call it. It was just amazing, the whole process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTyler and Yungblud both wound up performing at the Back to the Beginning concert for Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath on July 5 in Birmingham, England \u2014 the latter releasing a single of his rendition of the band\u2019s \u201cChanges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe got to hear all the stories that were absolutely incredible from Joe and Steven,\u201d Schwartz adds. \u201cWhat rock life used to be like before socials and everything else. I\u2019m still pinching myself to think we\u2019ve been spending all this time together with those two.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tEqually organic was the addition of Steve Martin on banjo for \u201cMy Only Angel (Desert Road Edition).\u201d \u201cWe did this acoustic version,\u201d Schwartz recalls, \u201cand I said, \u2018I\u2019d like to try banjo on it, why not?\u2019 And Steven goes, \u2018Hey, why don\u2019t we call Steve Martin?\u2019 and I was like, \u2018Yeah, why don\u2019t we.\u2019 (laughs) The next thing you know Steve Martin sends me over this banjo part that was amazing, and he said, \u2018Should I go record it?\u2019 I said, \u2018It\u2019s done. You already recorded it.\u2019 He\u2019s like, \u2018What? I did it on my phone!\u2019 But it sounded amazing, and Steve Martin\u2019s on the record as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs to determining what Aerosmith should sound like 13 years after its last album, <em>Music From Another Dimension!<\/em>, Schwartz explains that \u201cthe easiest trap with Aerosmith is to go for the ballads, which we know and love. But they\u2019ve got \u2018Sweet Emotion,\u2019 so many other records that are phenomenal. We tried to go back to the \u201870s rather than the later era and tried to be inspired by those moments. The main thing was to make sure it sounded authentic. The whole idea was to push things forward \u2014 take things from the past and bring them forward as if they were done today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWork on the EP went into October, Schwartz says, with \u201cWild Woman\u201d as the last of the original songs written. \u201cBack in the Saddle (2025 Mix),\u201d meanwhile, was the idea of Perry\u2019s wife Billie and is the only track to include Aerosmith\u2019s other classic members \u2014 Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford and Joey Kramer, whose parts were taken from the original recording and mixed with new contributions from Tyler, Perry and Yungblud. Matt Sorum (Guns N\u2019 Roses, Velvet Revolver, the Cult) plays drums on the four originals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThat was nerve-racking,\u201d Schwartz says of the remake. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to overly change it, or completely transform it. I wanted it to sound like what would\u2019ve happened if we recorded it today in a studio, with today\u2019s approach and technology. When you listen to it, it\u2019s supposed to be a similar feeling \u2014 just modern.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tRudolph adds that \u201cBack in the Saddle\u201d solidifies the Aerosmith imprimatur on the endeavor. \u201cWe very much consider it an Aerosmith project versus a Steven and Joe side project,\u201d he explains, \u201cin the sense that Steven and Joe are Aerosmith and that \u2018Back in the Saddle\u2019 is on it, with everybody playing. The intention is that moving forward, if and when, we\u2019ll certainly get Tom and Brad involved. Joey\u2019s sort of retired from playing with the band. But it\u2019s all very fluid at this point.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThere is every intent on moving forward, it seems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSchwartz says that Tyler, Perry and Yungblud \u2014 who performed together at this year\u2019s MTV Music Video Awards \u2014 \u201cstarted a new song\u201d after the EP\u2019s four original tracks were done. \u201cWe haven\u2019t completely finished it, but it\u2019s really exciting.\u201d Perry certainly sounds game as well. \u201cThe obvious (thing) is maybe we can go in and write some more music. I haven\u2019t really talked to Steven about it, but I know that in our conversations over the last couple of months the words, \u2018We\u2019re never gonna do this again\u2019 never came up, so that\u2019s a good sign. I guess that\u2019s part of the adventure; I\u2019m too young to retire\u2026(and) I know he\u2019s got more in him. We\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tRudolph \u2014 who\u2019d be counseled by a predecessor that Aerosmith would never make new music again \u2014 says<em> One More Time<\/em> has given both band and brand a jolt of new excitement, and purpose. \u201cListen, they have an album called<em> Nine Lives<\/em> \u2014 I think they\u2019re proving, living out that title at this point,\u201d he says. \u201cThey\u2019ve been around for 55 years as a band. It doesn\u2019t look like they\u2019re going anywhere any time soon. This (EP) turned out so far above and beyond whatever expectations we had going into it. It was supposed to be the guys just going in and featuring on Dom\u2019s single.
