Dorothy Gale is never actually seen in the show; rather, her presence is merely suggested and discussed, though a silhouette of the character is seen throwing a bucket of water at Elphaba near the end.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"mb-4 text-xl font-bold md:text-2xl\">How was Dorothy portrayed in Wicked: For Good?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/tag\/universal-pictures\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Universal Pictures;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Universal Pictures<\/a>\u2018 Wicked: For Good, which is now playing in United States theaters, handles Dorothy\u2019s presence in Oz in a similar fashion. Not only does the character have very limited screen time, but her face is never actually shown. The events of The Wizard of Oz are referenced, but very rarely actually seen on the screen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Some may find this distracting; however, it\u2019s the best way to adapt the source material. Wicked isn\u2019t The Wizard of Oz \u2014 meaning, you probably already know how Dorothy dropped in, met some friends, and went on a quest. We\u2019re telling a different story in Wicked, and we don\u2019t need to spend too much time recapping the beloved 1939 film.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Showing Dorothy\u2019s face would have invited a whole bunch of unfair comparisons to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/tag\/judy-garland\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Judy Garland;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Judy Garland<\/a>. If they were to give Dorothy a larger role and have her speak, the internet would be abuzz comparing her to past interpretations of the character, which then would have taken the spotlight away from the movie\u2019s actual stars, Glinda (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/tag\/ariana-grande\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Ariana Grande;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Ariana Grande<\/a>) and Elphaba (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/tag\/cynthia-erivo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Cynthia Erivo;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Cynthia Erivo<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Chu has more or less confirmed that this was his reasoning for not showing Dorothy\u2019s face, as he told <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/people-wicked-for-good-special-issue-exclusive-11838269\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:People;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">People<\/a>, \u201cI didn\u2019t want to step on who you think Dorothy is in whatever story that you came into this with.
