The next generation of <\/span>Nickelodeon <\/span><\/a>fans are about to think that the answer to the question, \u201cWho lives in a pineapple under the sea?\u201d is \u201cSpongeBob big guy pants okay.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n On December 19, 2025, Paramount Pictures will release the fourth theatrical film in their\u00a0<\/span>SpongeBob SquarePants\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/a>cinematic universe,\u00a0The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants<\/i>, a moment that will undoubtedly make the now-in-their-mid-30s OG fans of the franchise ask, \u201cWait, there are four\u00a0SpongeBob\u00a0<\/i>movies now?\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Yes, Millennials who grew up with the voice of <\/span>Tom Kenny <\/span><\/a>blasting out of a CRT and straight into our newly-forming memories are no longer the target audience for\u00a0SpongeBob SquarePants.<\/i> The creative decisions made by the current custodians of the SpongeBob <\/i>IP are aimed at a much younger demographic, and, thus, may seem strange and alienating to nostalgic adults \u2013 nowhere is that more apparent than in the soundtrack. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Not only is hit rapper Ice Spice a voice actor in\u00a0The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants,\u00a0<\/i>but she also composed and performed an original song for the film, and it has us older fans wishing that Squidward\u2019s clarinet would finally burst our eardrums. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Like millions of Americans, Isis Naija \u201cIce Spice\u201d Gaston grew up watching SpongeBob SquarePants<\/i>, and, even before she got involved with The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants<\/i>, she said that the series had a huge impact on her. \u201cThe only animated character I ever had a crush on was like, SpongeBob,\u201d Ice Spice admitted in a 2023 interview<\/span><\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019s very integrated in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n Ice Spice also has a single inspired by SpongeBob<\/i>, titled \u201cBikini Bottom,\u201d the lyrics of which are beyond inappropriate for the new movie, hence the need for a bespoke song.<\/p>\n Ice Spice credited her public love for SpongeBob <\/i>with landing her a part in the new film, along with an entry in the soundtrack:<\/p>\n Judging from the YouTube comments, the younger generation of SpongeBob <\/i>fans seem excited that a young star like Ice Spice is both involved in The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants <\/i>and shares their passion for the franchise. Seeing as Ice Spice’s affection for the series extends past the undoubtedly generous check that Nickelodeon cut for her involvement, I realize and respect that my personal distaste for \u201cBig Guy\u201d is well-outweighed by the genuine enthusiasm it’s generating among the \u201c6-7<\/span><\/a>\u201d generation.<\/p>\n Still, as a grumpy unc, I’d rather listen to \u201cElectric Zoo\u201d on repeat for 12 hours than withstand another 12 seconds of \u201cBig Guy,\u201d and I know I’m not alone in that feeling:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n
