The late Prince Philip allegedly gave his grandson Prince Harry a stern warning about getting married to an actress ahead of his 2018 wedding to Meghan Markle.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cOne steps out with actresses, one doesn\u2019t marry them,\u201d the Duke of Edinburgh allegedly told the Duke of Sussex after he and the Suits<\/i> star got engaged in 2017, royal biographer Andrew Lownie wrote in his book Entitled<\/i>, according to the Daily Mail<\/a>.<\/p>\n Per the outlet, royal author Ingrid Seward also stated in her 2024 book, My Mother and I, Philip<\/i>, that Philip was \u201cone of the very few wary\u201d of Markle when she and Harry started dating in 2016.<\/p>\n Philip, who died in April 2021 at the age of 99, also compared Markle to the late King Edward VIII\u2019s wife, Wallis Simpson, with whom he gave up the throne to marry in 1937.<\/p>\n The former Duke and Duchess of Windsor\u2019s marriage was viewed as a scandal since the socialite had been married and divorced twice.<\/p>\n They were together until Edward died in 1972.<\/p>\n Reps for Markle, 44, and Buckingham Palace weren\u2019t immediately available to Page Six for comment.<\/p>\n Philip and Queen Elizabeth II, who died in 2022, were present when Harry, 41, and Markle tied the knot at Windsor Castle in May 2018.<\/p>\n According to Grant Harrold, a former royal butler, Philip allegedly told Elizabeth, \u201cThank f**k that\u2019s over,\u201d shortly after leaving the chapel.<\/p>\n In January 2020, the couple announced they were resigning from their royal duties and opted to move to North America, where they now live with their kids: Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.<\/p>\n Philip reportedly refused to have a say in Harry and Markle\u2019s decision and allegedly told Elizabeth that he would \u201cbe soon out of it.\u201d<\/p>\n Per the US Sun, while the Duke of Edinburgh allegedly didn\u2019t agree with the duo\u2019s choices, he believed \u201cpeople have to lead their lives as they think best,\u201d according to royal biographer Gyles Brandreth.<\/p>\n Brandreth also wrote that Philip labelled Harry and Markle\u2019s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey as \u201cmadness.\u201d<\/p>\n In the 2021 interview, Markle told the TV personality that her life as a royal was \u201calmost unsurvivable.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI just didn\u2019t want to be alive anymore,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Markle also discussed how members of the royal family once allegedly discussed their concerns about \u201chow dark [Archie\u2019s]
