“Head home for the holidays… in a bodybag<\/em>.” That was the tagline for a fake trailer played during Quentin Tarantino<\/strong> and Robert Rodriguez<\/strong>‘s Grindhouse<\/em> double-feature back in 2007.<\/p>\n Created by Eli Roth<\/strong>, the faux preview was for a “movie” called Thanksgiving<\/em> \u2014 and sure enough, years later, the iconic horror director, 53, turned his short creation into an acclaimed feature film.<\/p>\n Starring Patrick Dempsey<\/strong>, Thanksgiving<\/em> was released in 2023 and quickly got the green light for a sequel \u2014 though it’s now two years later and fans haven’t so much as seen a teaser for the follow-up. Is the project still going to happen?<\/p>\n Roth is here to say that, yes, Thanksgiving 2<\/em> is still very much in the works. In a new interview for the Talk Is Jericho<\/em> podcast<\/a>, the filmmaker and actor provided juicy updates about the sequel that will leave fans of the first installment breathing a sigh of relief.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are doing some polishes on the script,\u201d Roth told host Chris Jericho<\/strong> in the podcast episode published last week. \u201cThere was a kind of a second act issue that [co-writer Jeff Rendell<\/strong>] and I were having. We just kept going going around circles trying to figure out how to get through it. And then actually, another writer team had a really good idea, and we\u2019re like, \u2018Oh, let\u2019s let them come in and take a pass because I think we\u2019ve been we\u2019ve kind of had our noses in it for two years.”<\/p>\n The Inglourious Basterds<\/em> star continued, “They love the franchise. They\u2019re like, \u2018We don\u2019t want to change it. We love it. You guys have a brilliant sequel, but we think that… this is the issue.\u2019 And we\u2019re like, \u2018Ah, yeah.\u2019 But that\u2019s cool to collaborate with people with outside views… My theory has always been, ‘best idea wins.'”<\/p>\n Roth goes on to confirm that “the plan is for the script to get done this year and then for us to prep in the spring.
