\u201cLast Week Tonight with John Oliver\u201d may be done for the season, but the HBO host had a bit of last minute news to deliver this week \u2014 his tirades against the \u201cAir Bud\u201d franchise paid off. Oliver was offered a role in the next movie, but alas, he immediately turned it down.<\/p>\n
In a web exclusive posted Sunday night, Oliver took a third shot<\/a> at the dog movie franchise, after he begged in another web exclusive<\/a> last month to be considered for the role of Buddy the Dog in the next film. To kick it off, the host revealed that, after making his plea, Air Bud Entertainment CEO actually offered him a part, though he stressed that it would have to be a human.<\/p>\n \u201cSo first, I\u2019m flattered,\u201d Oliver replied. \u201cNo one in the history of casting has described a part that\u2019s perfect for me as \u2018human being.\u2019 I\u2019m not fishing for leading roles or anything, but it\u2019s genuinely touching to be considered for the role of \u2018human being\u2019 after a career of being told I\u2019d be perfect for parts like \u2018Nervous porcupine,\u2019 \u2018arsehole Smurf\u2019 and \u2018bird that everyone hates.’\u201d<\/p>\n The host was of course referring to his previous roles in \u201cWonder Park,\u201d \u201cThe Smurfs\u201d and Disney\u2019s 2019 remake of \u201cThe Lion King,\u201d respectively. Unfortunately, playing a human role was actually a dealbreaker for Oliver, especially since he had previously asked for a very specific audition.<\/p>\n \u201cTo be completely honest, I thought that I\u2019ve been clear that I didn\u2019t want to be handed the role of human,\u201d Oliver said. \u201cI\u2019m not a contest winner, I\u2019m a professional who takes his craft seriously. What I wanted was to audition for the part of your leading basketball dog!\u201d<\/p>\n Still, Oliver was willing to maybe consider the offer \u2014 at least until he noticed another recent video from Robert Vince, encouraging fans to invest in the film themselves.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cYou don\u2019t have any money either?! Are you f\u2013king s\u2013tting me?!\u201d Oliver bellowed. \u201cSo you started making an \u2018Air Bud\u2019 movie without a dog or money. What exactly are you doing here?! What do you think movies even are? You are the CEO of Air Bud Entertainment! What the f\u2013k is happening right now? A man without a dog or funding, who hates movies and basketball, has made multiple videos asking us to help him make an \u2018Air Bud,\u2019 and somehow I\u2019m the f\u2013king crazy one here?! F\u2013k you!\u201d<\/p>\n Oliver then joked that he\u2019d stumbled into a situation similar to a dog stumbling onto a high school basketball team, creating a \u201csense memory\u201d that he could use for a role in \u201cAir Bud.\u201d But no, Oliver won\u2019t be accepting Vince\u2019s offer to be in the next film.<\/p>\n \u201cI am officially out, which, it turns out, won\u2019t actually impact their movie, because somehow, nine days after they made a video offering me a role in their movie, they made this post with a message announcing \u201dAir Bud Returns\u2019 just wrapped,\u2019 and what the f\u2013k are you talking about?!\u201d Oliver said, losing it again.<\/p>\n \u201cFirst, you had no dogs, then you had two dogs, then you had no money, then you finished with, I\u2019m just gonna point out, only one dog in the photo,\u201d he continued. \u201cThis is an emotional rollercoaster, and I want to get off!\u201d<\/p>\n All that said, Oliver admitted that he\u2019s still very into the idea of starring in an animal-based sports films. He just has a few conditions for anyone that wants him to do so.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I cannot believe I have to say them out loud,\u201d he bemoaned. \u201cYou have to have the animal in question, you have to have the funding for the movie secured, and you can\u2019t have already wrapped production.
