CAMPMATE Martin Kemp has a secret friendship with the Princess of Wales \u2014 and she even took off her shoes on a visit to his home, his TV presenter son Roman reveals today.<\/p>\n

The Spandau Ballet star, 64<\/a>, and his Wham! singer missus Shirlie, 63, also gave the royal favourite some of their home-pressed apple<\/span> juice when she called on the family at Roman\u2019s invitation.<\/p>\n

TV and radio<\/span> host Roman<\/a> \u2014 who came third in I\u2019m A Celebrity<\/span><\/a> in 2019 \u2014 made the revelations as he discussed his bassist dad\u2019s battles with brain tumours and tips he has given his old man on surviving camp life Down Under.<\/p>\n

Roman, 32, said he got to know the princess, 43<\/a>, when she contacted him to discuss a mental health<\/span><\/a> project he was working on.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cA member of the palace team asked me if they could set up a Zoom call to discuss the details.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was expecting a load of people on the call and couldn\u2019t believe it when it turned out to be just me and her.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe asked whether we could do the filming at my house. I was like, \u2018my parents\u2019 house is much nicer let\u2019s do it there\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo my mum raced out and got a load of nice<\/span> things in, and suddenly the future<\/span> Queen is having tea and biscuits with her and my dad!\u201d<\/p>\n

Roman added: \u201cI remember when she arrived she could see everyone else had taken their shoes off so she offered to take hers off.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was surreal. Somehow you never expect to see a member of the Royal Family<\/a> in their socks!<\/p>\n

\u201cLater, my parents gave her some of the apple juice which they press in their garden to take home as a little gift.<\/p>\n

\u201cA few weeks later she wrote a lovely letter which my mum has kept thanking them and saying that Prince<\/span> George<\/a> loved the juice and is there any chance of more!<\/p>\n

\u201cWorking with her was amazing. She very kindly wrote me a thank-you note too which I have framed on my wall at home.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an emotional interview, Roman, whose dad has mentioned his history<\/span> of tumours<\/a> to the camp celebs, opens up on battles Martin faced.<\/p>\n

He added that the family had to sell their house and cars<\/span> to pay his medical bills<\/span>.<\/p>\n

He said his memories are of his dad with no hair<\/a>. He was then three and his sister, Harleymoon, seven.<\/p>\n

Roman said: \u201cThey told him he was dying, so he wrote a book for me and Harley to read one day. He had a couple of operations and treatment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey warned mum he could come out blind, paralysed.<\/p>\n

\u201cMum and dad never made it scary for us as kids, but it definitely brought us closer and made us pretty insular as a family and it definitely made their marriage<\/a> even stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roman said that Martin also suffered epilepsy<\/a> and memory loss as a result of his brain tumour and had to re-learn all his Spandau Ballet parts.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cIt\u2019s extraordinary that, after everything he\u2019s been through, he\u2019s out there in the jungle.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf anything it\u2019s made him more humble.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no diva about him but he\u2019s being too nice in the camp!<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s just us voting for him to do the trials! I can\u2019t see my dad \u00adgetting into rows \u2014 he\u2019s too mild mannered \u2014 but making him chef is dangerous. He cannot cook.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roman, now appearing in BBC\u2019s Celebrity Race<\/span> Across the World<\/a> with Harleymoon, has given the ex-EastEnders star tips on \u00adenduring life in the camp. <\/p>\n

He said \u201cFor one, I told him to block out the jungle noise at night by stuffing spare toilet roll in his ears.<\/p>\n
