A category featured on Tuesday night\u2019s episode of \u201cJeopardy!<\/a>\u201d tested the contestants\u2019 knowledge of church pews \u2014 and knowing about a historic building in Salt Lake City provided a slight advantage. <\/p>\n During the second half of Tuesday\u2019s game, the three contestants faced five clues in a category called \u201cPew Pew Pew.\u201d <\/p>\n The players were able to correctly answer four out of five. But one clue stumped all three \u2014 including the now 11-game \u201cJeopardy!\u201d champ Harrison Whitaker<\/a>. <\/p>\n The $2,000 clue: \u201cThis egg-shaped building\u2019s original pews \u2014 enough to seat nearly 9,000 \u2014 were made of pine from the Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains.\u201d <\/p>\n Lyman Howard, a financial advisor from Mill Valley, California, buzzed in with the response, \u201cWhat is the Mormon Temple?\u201d <\/p>\n When the other two contestants couldn\u2019t come up with anything, \u201cJeopardy!\u201d host Ken Jennings<\/a> provided the answer: the Tabernacle. <\/p>\n The Salt Lake building also received a shoutout \u2014 and stumped all three players \u2014 during a game last season, the Deseret News<\/a> previously reported.<\/p>\n In a \u201cJeopardy!\u201d episode that aired in late May, the following clue went unanswered: \u201cA Baptist church with this biblical name opened in London in 1861, a few years before another faith opened one in Utah.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s also like the one in Salt Lake,\u201d Jennings hinted after none of the contestants could come up with a response. <\/p>\n The Salt Lake Tabernacle was completed in 1867, and immediately became a gathering place for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.<\/p>\n The historic building, where the Tabernacle Choir performs its weekly \u201cMusic and the Spoken Word<\/a>\u201d broadcast, has also welcomed several U.S. presidents, world leaders, entertainers and musicians, as the Deseret News<\/a> previously reported.<\/p>\n As a lifelong \u201cJeopardy!\u201d fan, Jennings \u2014 a BYU grad who holds the all-time record for most \u201cJeopardy!\u201d wins with a staggering 74 \u2014 said he\u2019s seen several references to the Church of Jesus Christ over the years.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I was a contestant on the show, I wagered $3,800 one time on a Daily Double where the response turned out to be \u2018Who is Brigham Young?\u2018\u201d he told the Deseret News<\/a> in 2013. \u201cI remember wishing I\u2019d wagered a lot more.\u201d<\/p>\n Whitaker, a 27-year-old researcher originally from Terre Haute, Indiana, won Tuesday night\u2019s game.<\/p>\n The victory marked his 11th consecutive win, and has brought his total on the show (so far) to more than $300,000.<\/p>\n Whitaker\u2019s path to the 42nd season of \u201cJeopardy!\u201d started this past summer when he was between jobs and tired of filling out applications.<\/p>\n In a break from the monotony, Whitaker, who recently earned a doctorate from England\u2019s University of Cambridge, decided to start working on a different kind of application \u2014 one for \u201cJeopardy!\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI just thought, \u2018Well, if I have to do something that I can convince myself is productive, may as well be a \u2018Jeopardy!\u2019 application,\u2019\u201d Whitaker recently told the Indiana Statesman<\/a>.<\/p>\n Now, he has become a standout player on the show. <\/p>\n His advice to aspiring contestants: keep learning.<\/p>\nA historic Salt Lake building gets a \u2018Jeopardy!\u2019 shoutout<\/h3>\n
