Brendan Fraser had an emotional response on TV while discussing a topic that is personal to him.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The \u201cWhale\u201d star appeared on \u201cThe Kelly Clarkson Show\u201d<\/a> on Monday to discuss a short film he executive produced, \u201cSaving Superman.\u201d The doc is an 11-minute short that tells the story of Jonathan, a 57-year-old man with autism who has become a beloved figure in the Chicago suburb of Glen Ellyn.<\/span> \u201cEach summer he wears his Superman costume, and he knows everything about Superman,\u201d Fraser said of the film\u2019s central subject. \u201cHis housing was being compromised. He was effectively not allowed to live in his apartment anymore. So he had friends, and the whole town rallied around him to support him having a lodging, a home.\u201d<\/span> While speaking about the premise of the film, Fraser suddenly became sentimental \u2014 and quickly revealed the reason as to why he abruptly teared up.<\/span> NBCUniversal\/The Kelly Clarkson Show<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n \u201cI\u2019m the dad of a son with special needs,\u201d he shared. \u201cI want to be part of it for that reason.\u201d<\/span> \u201cWe need to do well by everyone who has a family on [a] spectrum,\u201d Fraser continued. \u201cWe need more services available to them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Clarkson then got out of her chair to console the actor with a big hug.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cIt\u2019s beautiful to watch that, and be a part of that and get to see that,\u201d Clarkson said, reflecting on Fraser\u2019s involvement, and the film\u2019s goal of shedding light on a condition that affects 1 in 31 children and 1 in 45 adults in the United States, according to the advocacy group Autism Speaks<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
