And while <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2024-12-19\/lady-gaga-die-with-a-smile-bruno-mars-grammys-coachella-interview\">Lady Gaga<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2024-01-15\/green-day-saviors-billie-joe-armstrong\">Green Day <\/a>and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2024-11-19\/post-malone-coachella-big-ass-stadium-tour-2025-dates\">Post Malone<\/a> are certainly part of that musical menagerie, let\u2019s not forget that it\u2019s the bands that compel us to brave the afternoon desert sun that really make this double weekend in Indio special (we\u2019re looking at you, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-04-05\/coachella-2025-music-festival-set-times-ed-sheeran-weezer-fka-twigs\">Weezer and Ed Sheeran<\/a>). This year\u2019s crop of artists bring us a mix of vintage soul, pulsating EDM, Aussie punk swagger, Irish hip-hop and everything in between. Missing the band\u2019s set this weekend is a bigger one. The group\u2019s performance at the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/archives\/blogs\/pop-hiss\/story\/2011-04-17\/coachella-2011-jimmy-eat-world-throws-a-bro-down\">Outdoor Theatre in 2011<\/a> under the blazing sun is seared into my mind as a core Coachella memory. Jimmy Eat World has consistently put out impeccable power pop for 30-plus years, with \u201cClarity\u201d and \u201cBleed American\u201d among the best alt-rock records released in that time frame. The Venezuelan enigma first got her start producing records like Kanye West\u2019s \u201cYeezus\u201d and Bj\u00f6rk\u2019s \u201cVulnicura\u201d in the early 2010s. Now, the 35-year-old musician, also known for her mind-bending visuals, is making her desert debut \u2014 with 11 albums under her belt. That\u2019s it. That\u2019s my pitch. But if that isn\u2019t enough to pique your interest, the music should be. At Coachella, which has not only been a tastemaker for electronic music but also an event that honors the history and breadth of EDM\u2019s subgenres, Meute offers a twist on those who came before as well as their own originals. My gut tells me to expect that with Soft Play. The punk duo out of England will probably attract fans of previous Coachella artists like <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2021-11-05\/turnstile-baltimore-hardcore\">Turnstile<\/a> and Idles, and I expect there will be some good mosh-pit action for heavier songs such as \u201cAct Violently\u201d and \u201cPunk\u2019s Dead,\u201d but don\u2019t miss the more mellow \u201cEverything and Nothing\u201d with some lovely mandolin action. (However, seeing them palling around the field with Danny DeVito and then onstage with the psychedelic garage soul band King Khan and the Shrines, definitely gave off some fever dream vibes.)
