Just because the likes of Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Jonathan Bailey booked Wicked, doesn\u2019t mean there weren\u2019t some pretty stellar choices who auditioned for their role.<\/p>\n
We\u2019ve already established how Sherryl Lee Ralph auditioned for Madame Morrible<\/a>, a choice many people seemingly preferred. A lot of stupidly hot men auditioned for Fiyero<\/a>, with the role eventually going with Jonathan Bailey after the casting directors managed to work around his schedule. A full list of who auditioned for Wicked is available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Though I\u2019m a firm believer that Ariana Grande<\/a> was born to play Glinda, these other actresses who auditioned would have been amazing.<\/p>\n Dove Cameron<\/a> had long been a fancasting favourite for Glinda, not only because of her blonde tresses, but also her history of playing musical characters. A Disney<\/a> Channel actress born and bred, Dove has gone on to sing her heart out in Descendants films, Hairspray, Les Mis\u00e9rables, Mamma Mia, and Clueless.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t think everyone wants me to be Glinda but, I mean, it\u2019s like the role of a lifetime. I\u2019ve been dreaming of it since I was, like, 7. I mean, I should be so lucky to be considered,\u201d she said a few years back.<\/p>\n Though she wasn\u2019t lucky enough to book the role after the \u201clong process\u201d of auditioning, she did wish Ariana the best: \u201cI\u2019m so excited for Ariana. She\u2019s a genuinely dear friend of mine. We met when we were super young. I think she\u2019s gonna kill it. I think the whole cast is phenomenal head to toe. So, like, as a fan, I\u2019m really, really excited to see it.\u201d<\/p>\n Though she might be a little too old to play Glinda in Wicked, Amanda Seyfried \u201cbent over backwards\u201d during the audition process. She was hungry for the role.<\/p>\n \u201cI have dreams that I\u2019m still auditioning for Wicked. Last summer while I was playing Elizabeth [on The Dropout], on the weekends I was auditioning in person to play Glinda in the movie version of Wicked\u2014because I wanted it that much that I was like, \u2018You know what? Yeah, I have to play the last scene of \u2018The Dropout\u2019 on Tuesday. I\u2019ll give my Sunday to you,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cI literally bent over backwards while playing the hardest role of my life. But I think it also taught me how far I\u2019ve come as a singer, which I really wanted to prove. Because ever since Les Mis, I was like, \u2018I need to be better. I need to do better.\u2019 So whatever comes next in terms of musicals, I\u2019m finally prepared.\u201d<\/p>\n After starring in both the Mean Girls musical movie and the stage show, Rene\u00e9 Rapp was hungry for another musical role. Though she didn\u2019t get it, she was thrilled for Ariana.<\/p>\n \u201cI did, I did, yeah. Ariana\u2019s gonna be \u2013 can I cuss? Ok, she\u2019s gonna be f\u2014ing amazing. I cared too much this time. I hope it\u2019s okay that I\u2019m sharing this.\u201d<\/p>\n Apparently, there are even more huge names who auditioned for Glinda in Wicked, but those are the only celebs we currently know.
