A lot of that had to do with Elle Fanning\u2019s great dual performance as the synthetics Thia and Tessa. The 27-year-old has been acting since she was a kid alongside her sister Dakota Fanning, but this is the first time she was in a high-profile science fiction movie, and she crushed it. Not to mention, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/movies\/articles\/elle-fanning-explains-she-did-010622095.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:she was actually strapped to the back of her co-star;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\">she was actually strapped to the back of her co-star<\/a> for much of the shoot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">When she recently talked to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/elle-fanning-predator-badlands-sentimental-value-big-year-1236424260\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:The Hollywood Reporter;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, it was pointed out how there\u2019s been awards buzz around her performance in <em>Predator: Badlands<\/em>, but it probably won\u2019t be \u201ctaken as seriously\u201d because it&#8217;s a genre film. I had the chance to watch it early over a month ago, and I don\u2019t think a few days go by before I think about it again. The more I sit with it, the more I\u2019ve realized it\u2019s the best movie I\u2019ve seen this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The movie itself is a drama about a fractured Norwegian family. Stellan Skarsgard plays a beloved director and estranged father to his two adult daughters (played by Renate Reinsve and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas). Following the death of their mother, Skarsgard approaches Reinsve\u2019s Nora with a script he has written for her, with the intention of her playing the leading role in his first movie in years. She rejects his offer, and the role goes to an American actress (played by Fanning), but it\u2019s just not the same.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It\u2019s one of those movies where you just have to trust me and seek it out as soon as it hits theaters in your area. (It currently has a limited release, with plans to slowly go wider). It has some really touching messages about legacy in the family and the complicated connections between a father and daughter. Director Joachim Trier helms the film in a tender way that is so unlike your typical drama. (If you\u2019ve seen Academy Award nominee <em>The Worst Person In The World<\/em>, you might have an idea).<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">And if you like following Oscar movies as I do, it\u2019s currently a shoo-in for Best Picture, along with other major categories like Best Director.
