Denver harsh-doom dealers <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/olddeerband\/?hl=en\">Old Deer<\/a> dropped its first full-length, <em>Someone in the House<\/em>, independently on November 7, and the title is indicative of the claustrophobic sense of dread the four-piece creates by incorporating sledgehammer-heavy sludge, manic mathcore and post-metal sensibilities.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/1tY0h5G8NgD74ZTTb2SJB4?si=257b3255bf8e4f12\">\u201cThe Hatch\u201d<\/a> pummels, including a fitting saxophone scream at one point, while the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/28CbC4lpeoBGq9hfigtM9m?si=767b1c1756ce4040\">eponymous track<\/a> is devil-driving doom \u2014 low and slow, shifty and sludgy. The crown jewel, however, is <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/23SvkgZbIwpv937dY8dHed?si=c6e5fb803c52435c\">\u201c4507.\u201d<\/a> The nearly thirteen-minute epic closer is an amalgamation of everything Old Deer does, twisting and turning from mathcore to harsh noise to doom-sludge, before wrapping up with a surprise: the <em>King of the Hill <\/em>theme song.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever guitarist-vocalist Matt, bassist Josh, guitarist Tyler and drummer Adam (when you\u2019re this heavy, you only need first names) do on <em>Someone in the House<\/em>, it just works.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Late Night Infomercial\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/6gjqXtNmPGm4ZGyU5lWyvw?si=0b3ae491bec14665&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong>Origami Summer<\/strong><br \/><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/6gjqXtNmPGm4ZGyU5lWyvw?si=0b3ae491bec14665\">\u201cLate Night Infomercial\u201d<\/a><br \/>Rocky Mountain emo crew <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/origamisummer\/?hl=en\">Origami Summer<\/a> gets all up in the feels on new single, \u201cLate Night Infomercial,\u201d released independently on November 18. A relative newcomer having only been active out West since 2023, Origami Summer is comprised of veteran musicians from Midwest shoegaze, emo and deathcore\/hardcore scenes, according to the band. And such an education certainly shines through on \u201cLate Night Informercial.<\/p>\n<p>This one feels like a voicemail YOU were never meant to hear \u2014 made from the static, the empty midnight channels, and all the words we choke on when it\u2019s too late to take them back,\u201d the group shares. \u201cIf you\u2019ve ever stayed up too late replaying memories YOU can\u2019t shut off\u2026this song is for YOU. But the band recently paid homage to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westword.com\/music\/remembering-denver-punk-legend-duane-lance-bodenheimer-40801803\/\">Duane Lance Bodenheimer<\/a>, the fallen Denver legend and in-your-face frontman of Seattle-based hardcore group the Derelicts, with a rendition of \u201cFinal Fall,\u201d released independently on November 6.<\/p>\n<p>The 1989 original feels fitting for a man who didn\u2019t take himself too seriously, even though the Derelicts were seriously underrated but no less influential during Seattle\u2019s pre-grunge era.
