{"id":2181096,"date":"2025-11-29T18:24:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-29T18:24:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2181096"},"modified":"2025-11-29T18:24:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-29T18:24:13","slug":"oscar-winning-uk-playwright-tom-stoppard-dies-aged-88","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/oscar-winning-uk-playwright-tom-stoppard-dies-aged-88\/","title":{"rendered":"Oscar-winning UK playwright Tom Stoppard dies aged 88"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-article-body=\"true\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">British playwright Tom Stoppard, who won an Oscar for the screenplay for the 1998 movie &#8220;Shakespeare In Love&#8221;, has died at the age of 88, United Agents said on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved client and friend, Tom Stoppard, has died peacefully at home in Dorset, surrounded by his family,&#8221; the talent agency said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;He will be remembered for his works, for their brilliance and humanity, and for his wit, his irreverence, his generosity of spirit and his profound love of the English language,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;It was an honour to work with Tom and to know him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">To non-theatre-goers, Stoppard is best remembered for his work in cinema, which included the &#8220;Indiana Jones&#8221; and &#8220;Star Wars&#8221; franchises and an Oscar in 1999 for his screenplay for &#8220;Shakespeare in Love&#8221;, which scooped a total of seven Academy Awards that year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Born in Czechoslovakia in 1937, he fled his home during the Nazi occupation and found refuge in Britain.
