[Warning: The following post contains spoilers for<\/b> Landman<\/a><\/i><\/b> Season 2 Episode 3, \u201cAlmost a Home.\u201d]<\/b><\/p>\n Landman<\/i>\u2018s first season finale might\u2019ve marked the official introduction of Andy Garcia<\/a>\u2018s drug cartel boss Gallino, but Sunday\u2019s (November 30) installment was when fans finally got to know him and<\/i> his alter ego, Dan Morrell, the public-facing investor with ties to all manner of legitimate businesses.<\/p>\n In the episode, he and Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton<\/a>) met on two different occasions, and only one of them was acrimonious. Tommy was, of course, sour about the fact that his son, Cooper (Jacob Lofland<\/a>), unwittingly tied himself to the druglord and made no bones about his disapproval to Gallino.<\/p>\n As Garcia explained it, Gallino was in it with Cooper for more than just the money.<\/p>\n \u201cI think Gallino is always doing things for pure profit, but I think there\u2019s an added incentive\u2026 As he said in the last episode of [Season] 1, he wants to be friends with Tommy. He wants to be in that business, and how he goes about it, you will see, and how it manifests itself, we will see. But he hints to that in the last scene of the first season; Tommy says, \u2018We are never going to be friends.\u2019 And he says, \u2018No, we\u2019re going to be real good friends,’\u201d Garcia told TV Insider. \u201cSo he\u2019s imposing himself\u2026 He\u2019s like a hawk coming in at a prey, when they close their wings, and you don\u2019t hear them, it\u2019s stealth. And he comes, and he hits you when you\u2019re not looking.\u201d<\/p>\n Indeed, when Tommy saw Gallino for the second time \u2014 this time, operating as the private club owner Morrell \u2014 during a meeting with Cami (Demi Moore<\/a>) he was unexpectedly charmed by his power, his wife Bella (portrayed by Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/a><\/i> and Station 19<\/a><\/i> alum Stefania Spampinato<\/a>), and his mild-mannered demeanor in their impromptu gathering with Cami and Angela (Ali Larter<\/a>).<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n We\u2019ll have to wait and see what that means for Gallino\u2019s partnership with Cooper \u2014 and, whether or not Tommy likes it, him as well \u2014 but they\u2019ve both put their cards on the table now, and so far, it\u2019s all aces.<\/p>\n For Garcia, who is primarily a film star, the decision to join Landman<\/i> was a no-brainer, even though cocreator Taylor Sheridan<\/a> didn\u2019t have a script in hand when he pitched the part to him.<\/p>\n \u201cTaylor\u2019s writing and the shows he creates are amazing. I mean, it\u2019s just sublime storytelling. Before I watched his shows, I watched his films that he wrote\u2026 Then I started researching, \u2018Who is his writer?\u2019 And then I looked him up, and I saw Taylor, he\u2019s the actor, too. I\u2019d say, \u2018Same guy? Wow, this guy\u2019s talented.\u2019 I never knew him before. I mean, I\u2019ve seen him as an actor, but I never knew him as a writer,\u201d Garcia remembered. \u201cSo immediately, I was sucked into all his shows, and then I got a call that he wanted to meet and wanted to write this character for me. So I went to Fort Worth to meet with him, and there was mutual respect. And I said, \u2018Whatever you want to write, man, I\u2019m all in eager to be in your universe and play with you and play one of your characters. You\u2019re a great writer.\u2019 So it was an easy, \u2018Yes.\u2019 He had nothing written; he would just talk about what he was thinking of writing for me, the nature of the character, and I had no idea there was such a character in the Permian Basin floating around. I guess they\u2019re everywhere.<\/p>\n Landman<\/i> Season 2 hasn\u2019t introduced too many new characters \u2014 just Sam Elliott<\/a>\u2018s T.L., so far \u2014 but with Andy Garcia and Demi Moore ramping up their screen time so significantly this season, clearly, the show didn\u2019t need anyone else.<\/p>\n Landman<\/i><\/b>, Sundays, Paramount+<\/b><\/p>\n
