Finland-born karaoke technology company Singa has signed a licensing agreement with Merlin<\/a>, adding \u201cthousands\u201d of original master recordings from independent labels to its platform, six months after securing a similar deal<\/a> with Warner Music Group<\/a>.<\/p>\n The partnership, announced Tuesday (December 2), gives the startup access to recordings from Merlin<\/strong>\u2018s membership of independent labels and distributors spanning more than 70 countries. Combined with its June licensing deal with Warner<\/strong> Music<\/strong>, Singa<\/b> is assembling a catalog of original masters and \u201cnot reproductions or soundalike\u00a0versions.\u201d<\/p>\n Previously, karaoke companies relied on recreated versions of popular songs due to licensing restrictions with major labels.<\/p>\n Singa and Merlin said the partnership opens up new revenue streams for Merlin members and artists.<\/p>\n Merlin represents roughly 15%<\/b> of the recorded music market and negotiates licensing deals on behalf of independent labels including Domino<\/a><\/b> Recording<\/b>, Empire<\/a><\/b>, Exceleration<\/b> Music<\/b>, Hopeless<\/b> Records<\/b>,\u00a0Mushroom<\/b> Music<\/b>, Ninja<\/b> Tune<\/b>, ONErpm<\/b>, Secretly<\/a><\/b>, Reservoir<\/a><\/b> and more. It now operates in 34 countries with about 2,000<\/b> hospitality venues and 2 million<\/b> registered home users.<\/p>\n For Merlin, the Singa partnership marks its latest after previously negotiating deals with Apple<\/a><\/b>, Canva<\/b>, Deezer<\/a><\/b>, Meta<\/b>, Spotify<\/a><\/b>,\u00a0YouTube<\/a><\/b> and more. Merlin recently renewed<\/a> its partnership with Spotify after a 17-year collaboration.<\/p>\n Merlin recently appointed<\/a> Charlie Lexton <\/b>as Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2026. Sirota is stepping down<\/a>\u00a0by the end of the year, after nearly two decades at the company.<\/p>\n\n
