\nCastle is set to be the most glittering of the year.<\/p>\n

King Charles and Queen Camilla will welcome the President of
\nGermany, Franz-Walter Steinmeier, to the castle for a State Visit
\non December 3 and that evening, they will walk into St. George\u2019s
\nHall looking at its finest.<\/p>\n

For King Charles has put the Christmas tree up in this most
\nfamous royal room.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a rather appropriate decoration for the German State Visit
\nas it was Charles III\u2019s great, great, great, great, great
\ngrandmother who introduced the Christmas tree to England from her
\nnative Germany.<\/p>\n

Charlotte of Mecklenberg-Strelitz is the first royal known to
\nhave brought a fir tree into her home in England and decorated it
\nfor the season. Far more famously, her granddaughter, Queen
\nVictoria, became a fan of the Christmas tree and her family\u2019s
\ndevotion to the tradition helped to make it so popular across
\nEngland that it soon became an established tradition.<\/p>\n

Both Victoria and Charlotte would be impressed with the efforts
\nof King Charles and Queen Camilla this time round. The main
\nChristmas tree in Windsor is a 20 foot tall Nordmann fir that
\ndidn\u2019t have far to travel as it was grown in Windsor Great
\nPark.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been decorated with over 3,000 lights and baubles in green
\nand gold.<\/p>\n

The President of Germany will also be surrounded by festive
\ngarlands as he sits down to his State Dinner. The strings of
\nfoliage and flowers have been looped from the balconies around the
\nroom.<\/p>\n

During his stay at Windsor, President Steinmeier might also get
\na chance to see some of the other Christmas decorations now up at
\nthe castle. The Crimson Drawing Room has been filled with another
\ntree, this one a mere 16 feet tall, and covered in more bright
\nbaubles.<\/p>\n

There are also beautiful garlands hanging in the Great Staircase
\nwhich is one of the first parts of the castle that visitors
\nsee.<\/p>\n

Not all the decorations are big and bold. Christmas has also
\ncome to Queen Mary\u2019s Doll\u2019s House where a tree measuring just 45cm
\nhas taken up residence along with more garlands.<\/p>\n

Once the German State Visit is over, Windsor Castle will reopen
\nto visitors with admission on Thursday to Monday<\/a> and the decorations
\nup until January 5 2026.<\/p>\n
