It appears that there\u00a0is a new\u00a0Bj\u00f6rk<\/a>\u00a0album on the way in\u00a02026.<\/p>\n The musician\u2019s last studio album was 2022\u2019s \u2018Fossora<\/a>\u2019, but based on information recently announced about an exhibition at the National Gallery of Iceland next summer,\u00a0her next record is on its way.<\/p>\n In an Instagram post on Monday (December 1), it was revealed that\u00a0Bj\u00f6rk\u00a0and artist James Merry will be taking over the entire gallery during the Reykjavik Arts Festival, which opens on 30 May 2026.<\/p>\n Bj\u00f6rk\u2019s exhibition is dubbed \u2018Echolalia\u2019 and consists of three \u201cimmersive installations\u201d, two of which have been given titles: \u2018Ancestress\u2019 and \u2018Sorrowful Soil\u2019. They will give the public \u201ca rare opportunity to engage intimately with works of phenomenal visual, aural and emotional depth\u201d.<\/p>\n The third installation, however, is unnamed, and the post reveals it is \u201ca new work based on music from her forthcoming album, currently in development\u201d.<\/p>\n \u2018Ancestress\u2019 and \u2018Sorrowful Soil\u2019\u00a0are named after tracks on \u2018Fossora\u2019 and like the songs they are inspired\u00a0by,\u00a0the installations\u00a0have been created in tribute to Bj\u00f6rk\u2019s mother, the conservationist Hildur R\u00fana Hauksd\u00f3ttir, who passed away in 2018.<\/p>\n Bj\u00f6rk wrote\u00a0\u2018Sorrowful Soil\u2019 as a eulogy to her mother, singing, \u201cYou did your best, you did well<\/i>\u201d.\u00a0\u2018Ancestress\u2019 was described as an \u201cepitaph\u201d\u00a0and had a video made for it filmed on the land where her mother used to pick herbs. \u201cThe machine of her breathed all night\/while she rested\/Revealed her resilience\/And then\u2026 it didn\u2019t,\u201d<\/i>\u00a0Bj\u00f6rk\u00a0sang.<\/p>\n In a four-star review of \u2018Fossora\u2019<\/a>,\u00a0NME\u00a0<\/i>wrote: \u201cAn album of reinfatuation and reaffirmation, \u2018Fossora\u2019 is invigorating in its drive, if there\u2019s little of real surprise here; hard as the mushroom-gabber beats are, if you\u2019ve heard Pluto or Mutual Core, you won\u2019t be shocked. And pop has, to an extent, caught up with Bj\u00f6rk a little; to those raised on Blackpink<\/a>, hyperpop <\/a>and\u00a0trap<\/a>, \u2018Fossora\u2019 would hardly be so scary.\u201d<\/p>\n Since then,\u00a0Bj\u00f6rk\u00a0wrapped up her \u2018Cornucopia\u2019 tour in December 2023 and\u00a0shared the accompanying concert film earlier this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n She also\u00a0released the \u2018Oral<\/a>\u2019 charity single with\u00a0Rosal\u00eda<\/a>,\u00a0the proceeds from the song being donated to support the legal fight<\/a>\u00a0against foreign-owned salmon farming in Iceland, and more recently,\u00a0she\u00a0also teamed up with Rosal\u00eda again \u2013 as well as\u00a0Yves Tumor<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 for\u00a0new single \u2018Berghain\u2019.<\/a><\/p>\n She has also continued to use her voice for activism,\u00a0supporting the \u2018No Music For Genocide\u2019 campaign<\/a>\u00a0by making her back catalogue unavailable for streaming in Israel.\u00a0She also\u00a0described Spotify as \u201cprobably the worst thing that has happened to musicians\u201d<\/a>\u00a0last year, and has\u00a0maintained\u00a0her environmental activism,\u00a0stressing that she is\u00a0still hopeful for the future of the planet<\/a>, claiming that \u201cbiology always wins\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/blockquote>\n
