Klein, Sheboygan Press<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/media-video><\/div>\n<p>SHEBOYGAN\u00a0\u2013 Hmong New Year\u00a0will return to Sheboygan\u00a0with dancing, food and community.<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"600\" fluid=\"\" outstream=\"\" momentum=\"\"\/>\n<p>The celebration will include a\u00a0doubles\u00a0cornhole tournament, dance competition, cultural\u00a0show\u00a0and live entertainment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Vendors will also be selling\u00a0bubble tea,\u00a0fruits and vegetables,\u00a0sweets like Korean corn dogs, and merchandise.<\/p>\n<p>Community resources booths will also be at Hmong New Year.<\/p>\n<p><media-gallery-promo asset-id=\"71704760007\" class=\"column ten-column no-gutter spacer-large\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited about meeting and seeing new faces, old faces, friends and families from far, near, and to see what we can bring\u201d to the community this year, said Sheila Yang, president of the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a050th anniversary\u00a0celebration\u00a0marks\u00a0the five decades since\u00a0the beginning of the Hmong diaspora to the United States after the Vietnam War. Other celebrations are happening around the\u00a0country and\u00a0state in Milwaukee, Green\u00a0Bay\u00a0and Wausau.<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" fluid=\"\" bottom=\"\" lazy=\"\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"390\" outstream=\"\"\/>\n<p>Wisconsin has the third-largest Hmong population in the U.S., following behind California and Minnesota. About 62,000 Hmong people live in the state, nearly 5,200\u00a0in Sheboygan County, according to census data.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Ryan Sorenson,\u00a0Hmong New Year Chair Lue\u00a0Yang\u00a0and Sheila\u00a0Yang\u00a0will\u00a0be\u00a0among speakers\u00a0during welcome remarks and a ribbon-cutting at the local celebration.<\/p>\n<partner-inline util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" class=\"spacer-large\" placement=\"native-article_link\" sizes=\"[[300, 250], [3, 3]]\" min-height=\"250\" fluid=\"\" outstream=\"\"\/><cta-atoms-container-inline util-module-path=\"elements\/cta\" class=\"spacer-large\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The dance competition will feature at least 15 groups,\u00a0which Yang said is the highest number of participating groups at Hmong New Year. Yang said the school wanted the HMAA to be wrapped up with programming by early afternoon Sunday, but that\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0seem\u00a0feasible, especially for\u00a0vendors. HMAA\u00a0will use Sunday as a cleanup day, instead.<\/p>\n<p>Limiting Hmong New Year to one day also changed some programming.
