\u201cLaw & Order: Special Victims Unit\u201d alum BD Wong<\/a> has apologized for using a \u201cdespicable, racist trope\u201d in a since-deleted Instagram comment this week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Wong dropped the offensive comment under a Monday post<\/a> by animal enthusiast Mike Holston, who goes by \u201ctherealtarzann\u201d online and shared a video of himself with an exotic bearcat. Holston asked followers to \u201cName this animal… wrong answers only.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In Holston\u2019s replies, Wong reportedly wrote, \u201cIt appears to be a Black man,\u201d invoking dated, racist rhetoric long used to dehumanize Black people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Wong admitted that deleting the comment only served to help him avoid accountability as he called his remark \u201csuper wrong\u201d in a lengthy pair<\/a> of Threads posts<\/a> hours later.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cY\u2019all I made a very bad joke. As most people in hot water do, I deleted it for Damage Control but it\u2019s out there & continues to hurt & disappoint & I\u2019m really sorry about the hurt part,\u201d the \u201cJurassic Park\u201d actor admitted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cSuper dumb, but I tried to follow the \u2018Wrong Answers Only\u2019 prompt with the wrongest answer. This succeeded only in that it was Super Wrong,\u201d he went on. \u201cI know nobody gets a free pass. I\u2019m sorry if this #wtfbd moment tarnished any respect you may\u2019ve had for me. & thanks if you advocate for an internet that\u2019s safe for everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He continued the apology in a second post, adding, \u201cI want to elaborate on a racist comment I posted, to clarify that I recognize & accept the responsibility for how terrible it is. It\u2019s also wrong to try to \u2018explain\u2019 anything, & I think that causes a further breaking down in folks\u2019 trust.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cLet me please spend the energy on how wrong I know it is to exploit a despicable, racist trope in the supposed spirit of humor; I do know better, but again no excuses,\u201d Wong continued. \u201cVery sorry for the hurt I\u2019ve caused & for taking lightly something so deeply injurious.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
