Amanda Seyfried<\/a> kicked off her milestone 40th birthday with some surprises from the hosts of Today<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n Seyfried appeared on the NBC morning show on Wednesday, December 3, with Sydney Sweeney<\/a> to promote their new movie, The Housemaid<\/a><\/em>. \u201cI mentioned it\u2019s your birthday. We have a little something for you, Ms. Amanda,\u201d Willie Geist<\/a> said mid-interview before Al Roker<\/a> rolled out a special birthday cake for the actress.<\/p>\n \u201cIs this your first cake of the day? I hope,\u201d Geist asked, to which Seyfried confirmed it was. \u201cFirst of many. Happy Birthday!\u201d Roker added before he and Seyfried gave each other kisses on the cheek.<\/p>\n As if the heartfelt gesture wasn\u2019t enough, Geist followed up the cake with an even more exciting surprise. \u201cWhile you dig in, Amanda, there\u2019s one other thing. I know you made a very dear friend shooting Mamma Mia! 2<\/em>, and she is on the phone right now and wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday.\u201d<\/p>\n NBC<\/p>\n<\/div>\n On the other line was none other than Seyfried\u2019s Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again<\/em><\/a> costar and music icon Cher<\/a>. \u201cHey, babe! How are you?\u201d Cher asked as Seyfried\u2019s jaw dropped. \u201cAw, hey Grandma! I love you,\u201d she replied. \u201cI\u2019m better now. I miss you!\u201d<\/p>\n Cher went on to joke that she \u201cwouldn\u2019t get up for anybody this early,\u201d adding, \u201cExcept, I have to tell you something. I\u2019m a huge fan of this show.\u201d<\/p>\n Cher\u2019s call temporarily cut out just as Geist said she would sing \u201cHappy Birthday\u201d for Seyfried. When the reception returned, Geist asked the singer if she would perform the celebratory song. \u201cYou know what? I just came from the doctor yesterday, and I\u2019m not in my best voice.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite Cher feeling under the weather, Seyfried said that she sounded \u201cpretty damn good to me.\u201d Cher wished her Happy Birthday once again before hanging up. \u201cI love you!\u201d Seyfried said as the call ended.<\/p>\n Cher famously played Ruby, the grandmother of Seyfried\u2019s Sophie, in 2018\u2019s Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again<\/em>. The sequel to the 2008 movie musical Mamma Mia!<\/em><\/a> followed Sophie as she worked to reopen her family\u2019s Greek island hotel after the death of her mother, Donna (Meryl Streep<\/a>).
