\n\tIt was a humorous and heartfelt reunion between Gwyneth Paltrow<\/a> and Robert Downey Jr.<\/a> on Wednesday at The Hollywood Reporter\u2019<\/em>s\u00a02025\u00a0Women in Entertainment<\/a>\u00a0breakfast gala<\/a>, presented by Lifetime, at the Beverly Hills Hotel.<\/p>\n \n\tBefore Paltrow \u2014 who also graces the cover of THR<\/em>\u2018s Women in Entertainment issue<\/a> \u2014 took the stage to accept the 20th annual Sherry Lansing Leadership Award, Downey Jr. had some words of endearment as well as some playful digs at his former co-star and onscreen love interest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Paltrow played Pepper Potts, opposite Downey Jr.\u2019s Tony Stark, across several films.<\/p>\n \n\tDowney Jr. didn\u2019t waste any time before teasing her for being \u201cimpossibly intelligent, yet forever confused by the basic tenets of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its inhabitants\u201d \u2014 as she has frequently gone viral for forgetting key Marvel moments and even which of the superhero films she\u2019s been in.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201c\u2019Who\u2019s that?’\u201d The Sympathizer <\/em>actor said Paltrow once asked, to which he jokingly responded, \u201c\u2018That\u2019s Spider-Man. He said his name was Peter. His character\u2019s name is Peter. He\u2019s Tom Holland. You\u2019ve done four movies with him.’\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThroughout his speech, Downey Jr. looked back at her long career and the impressive film resum\u00e9 she\u2019s built. She first broke out in Hollywood in 1998\u00a0with her Oscar-winning performance in\u00a0Shakespeare in Love<\/em> before starring in dozens of other projects including her upcoming film, Marty Supreme<\/em>.<\/p>\n \n\tDowney Jr. went on to praise her work ethic, as Paltrow was \u201cbuilding Goop between takes on the set of\u00a0Iron Man<\/em>\u201d and raising her kids while also continuing her acting career. He also referenced how her split with ex Chris Martin \u201cintroduced the planet to the possibility of \u2018conscious uncoupling\u2019 \u2014 remember that? \u2014 which Hollywood has done a great job not emulating.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tHe then touched on Paltrow\u2019s more recent moves, saying she sidelined \u201c[a] second unannounced acting retirement for emerging talent Josh Safdie, make-out sesh with Timmy [Chalamet] \u2014\u00a0Marty Supreme<\/em>!\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tLater, the Oppenheimer<\/em> actor mused about Paltrow\u2019s \u201cpolarizing public persona,\u201d saying that \u201cpolarizing\u201d is \u201ca word used by dingbats to falsely describe powerful women who demonstrate decades of irrefutable relevance and reinvention.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cThat\u2019s why we are here,\u201d Downey Jr. continued. \u201cIn an age where we so crave leadership, example, integrity, resolve, and too often folks come up short, we have here a woman that is willing to go to trial, confronting her retired optometrist accuser regarding an alleged injury on a Deer Valley ski resort slope \u2014 and comport herself so honorably that a musical theater production is born to commemorate her moral strength, intestinal fortitude, not to mention her impeccably tasteful, civil suit chic-yet-practical courtroom attire.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tIn an ecstatic conclusion before Paltrow came up on stage, Downey Jr. yelled, \u201cIt\u2019s time to recognize \u2026 Gwyneth fuggin\u2019 Paltrow.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tRachel Sennott served as the host<\/a> of Wednesday\u2019s breakfast alongside additional speakers<\/a> of Dakota Johnson,\u00a0Sarah Paulson, Goldie Hawn<\/a>,\u00a0Regina Hall,\u00a0Chase Infiniti,\u00a0Jimmy Kimmel and Molly McNearney<\/a>.
