I\u2019m going to admit something: I don\u2019t know anything about Meghan Markle<\/a> or her Netflix show<\/a>. I\u2019ve managed to avoid any chatter about With Love, Meghan<\/em> as much as I\u2019ve avoided chatter about other things, like Wicked<\/em> and Taylor Swift\u2019s many concert films and whatever \u201cMarvel\u201d means. This is less to do with cultural snobbery, per se, than it is about me having a very specific sense of what I\u2019m into (true crime, LA-based fiction from the \u201990s, Bravo franchises), and an unwillingness to tread new ground if I feel it won\u2019t appeal.<\/p>\n But maybe I\u2019m missing out. Maybe I ought to open my mind and heart to With Love, Meghan<\/em>, which may not be aimed towards audiences like me (renters who have never thought about baubles in their life beyond a passing acknowledgement of their existence), but which I could nonetheless glean something from. To that end, I decided to watch With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration<\/em>, a one-off episode in which the Duchess of Sussex \u201cshares her favorite holiday traditions, seasonal crafts and family recipes with friends old and new in this festive special\u201d to see if I could learn\u2014or even just feel<\/em>\u2014something.<\/p>\n The episode begins with Markle offering tips on how to string lights on a Christmas tree. \u201cWhen I string the lights on a tree, I do it inside so it\u2019s lit from within,\u201d she says, smiling at her towering tree, which is adorned in dry fig slices. Okay! After this, she explains how she makes advent calendars for her kids made from cloth. In lieu of chocolate, she writes notes such as, \u201cI love you because you\u2019re so brave.\u201d I don\u2019t have children, but I try to imagine how I would have felt if my mother had done such a thing. Confused, probably, but hey, we can\u2019t knock sustainable alternatives to festive traditions.<\/p>\n Next up Markle prepares cacio e pepe goug\u00e8res for restaurateur Will Guidara. \u201cDab that goug\u00e8re,\u201d she says, before nudging them in the oven. Then Guidara is in the kitchen, and they\u2019re chatting about hosting. \u201cWhen I think about the great dinner parties I\u2019ve been to over the years, I don\u2019t think about what I ate,\u201d says Guidara, as the two of them clink glasses. \u201cI just remember whether or not I left with my heart\u2026\u201d They both finish the sentence in unison, smiling: \u201cFeeling full!\u201d Is this too American for me?<\/em> I find myself wondering, not for the first time. \u201cThe perfect imperfection that comes from human connection,\u201d he says. \u201cYes!\u201d cries Markle, as if Guidara just said something impossibly profound.
