\u201cDaily Show<\/a>\u201d correspondent Desi Lydic<\/a> on Tuesday reminded viewers of disturbing comments Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth<\/a> made years before he became embroiled in a scandal over a pair of deadly military strikes on an alleged drug trafficking boat.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Hegseth has been accused of overseeing an act of \u201cmurder\u201d or \u201cwar crime\u201d<\/a> in a Sept. 2 attack on survivors who clung to the boat\u2019s wreckage. Lydic said she wished for a sign that he would have been \u201cso cavalier\u201d about war crimes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n That\u2019s when she tossed to a 2019 clip<\/a> of the former Fox News<\/a> host defending Mathew L. Golsteyn, an Army major charged with killing an Afghan detainee who was alleged to be a Taliban bomb maker, and pardoned<\/a> by President Donald Trump<\/a> before the investigation was completed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cIf he committed premeditated murder, then Duncan did as well. Then I did as well. What do you think you do in war?\u201d Hegseth asked during a \u201cFox & Friends\u201d interview with then-Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), an Iraq War veteran. \u201cPut us all in jail!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Lydic shrugged her shoulders as the \u201cDaily Show\u201d crowd applauded.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cHey! You said it, not me,\u201d she quipped.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Lydic also mocked the \u201csecretary of defensiveness\u201d for responding to the scandal\u2019s backlash with a \u201cFranklin the Turtle\u201d meme<\/a> that showed the beloved titular character riding a helicopter and apparently firing missiles at drug boats.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
