Time travel, the longest night and a fancy spin on holiday decor are some of the seasonal selections offered for New Orleans metro audiences as musicals, ballet and a bit of kid-friendly fun offer more entertainment.<\/p>\n

With so much to see, it would be good to have a time machine and hop back to catch more shows.<\/p>\n

‘1.21 gigawatts?’<\/h3>\n

It was 40 years ago that a teen named Marty McFly hopped into a souped-up DeLorean and traveled back to the 1950s and changed history \u2014 in more ways than one.<\/p>\n

In the film, Marty messes with the timeline and almost obliterates his family. In reality, the Oscar-winning movie spawned two sequels and now a Broadway musical that plans to make the jump to New Orleans.<\/p>\n

“Back to the Future: The Musical” will head to the Saenger Theatre as part of the Broadway in New Orleans series, opening Tuesday and running through Dec. 14.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Based on the movie, the story focuses on the hapless teen who has befriended scientist Emmett “Doc” Brown. In a strange twist of fate, Marty engages the time-traveling ability of Doc’s car-turned-time machine and is hurled back to the time his parents were teens, just before they fell in love. Subtle changes to the timeline have rippling effects, and Marty must fix things before he (and his family) vanish.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And the gigawatts? That’s how much power is needed to make the time elements of the DeLorean work to send Marty “Back to the Future.”<\/p>\n

With songs from the original movie like “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B. Goode,” Emmy and Grammy winner Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard have penned new music for Tony-winner John Rando’s production.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Fancy Nancy at Rivertown<\/h3>\n

Seasonal celebrations continue at Rivertown Theaters for the Performing Arts when lovable literary character Fancy Nancy gets in the holiday spirit.<\/p>\n

“Fancy Nancy Splendiferous Christmas” is based on Jane O’Connor’s books as the title character prepares for a festive yule.<\/p>\n

From tree trimming to sparkling fashions, all seems to be going well \u2014 until a holiday mishap strikes.<\/p>\n

With songs, laughs and a big dose of celebratory magic, the show is a treat for all ages.<\/p>\n

Alternating the title role in the Kelly Fouchi-directed and choreographed show will be Lillian Miller and Taylor Nguyen. Also in the cast are Nina Schneider, Anna Birbiglia, Michael Breathe and Andrew Antoine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
