Kelley ruled ABC\u2019s legal drama roost like the Russos ran the MCU. The shift from <em>The Practice<\/em> to its spin-off <em>Boston Legal<\/em> was proof of that glorious era, with James Spader and William Shatner holding court as its leads. While the show ended in 2008, I recently found myself taking its status as one of TV Squad\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/tvsquad.com\/streaming\/best-drama-series-hulu\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:best dramas streaming on Hulu;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">best dramas streaming on Hulu<\/a> to heart through a recent rewatch. That fact leads me to the bad news I\u2019ve come here to deliver.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">If you\u2019re trying to watch Alan Shore and Denny Crane pal around through streaming, you\u2019ve got 13 days to get it done. Logging on this morning, I noticed that <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hulu.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Hulu;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Hulu<\/a> has marked the entire five season run for removal. All 101 episodes will be zapped from the digital library, and where they\u2019ll go next &#8211; I have no clue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">So returning <em>Boston Legal<\/em> fans should take note, and potentially skip around to their old favorites ASAP. But in the tradition of the unconventional hot shots at Crane, Poole, and Schmidt, I want to take some time to do something unorthodox. Like any good old timer will tell you, they really <em>don\u2019t<\/em> make \u2018em like this anymore. That label <em>especially<\/em> applies to William Shatner\u2019s Denny Crane, who doesn\u2019t just flirt with political incorrectness &#8211; he consistently renews his vows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Paired with James Spader\u2019s more Liberal Alan Shore (his character from the tail end of <em>The Practice<\/em>), the two womanizers are loose canons who do what it takes to get things done. While there isn\u2019t necessarily an overarching story per se, the major arc of <em>Boston Legal<\/em> is the relationship between these two men.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The antics of themselves, as well as their co-workers, make for sticky, and sometimes ribald situations &#8211; but there\u2019s often a lot of heart involved as well. Rather, it\u2019s a reminder of another time, when the great political division in the United States wasn\u2019t as fractured as it is today.\u00a0Also, at this point in our current timeline, it&#8217;s a throwback to arguments that feel positively quaint.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">If Alan Shore and Denny Crane could retire to a balcony every night for scotch and cigars, and still disagree on gun rights, then what is it that the rest of us are doing wrong? There are plenty of those disagreements too, as <em>Boston Legal<\/em> tackles the social hot button issues of 2004-2008 with the right mix of stoicism and awkward comedy that doesn\u2019t punch down. Now be warned, this <em>is<\/em> a David E. Kelley series &#8211; so those parties may disappear with no rhyme or reason. But there are a <em>ton<\/em> of guest stars and recurring cast members (like a pre <em>Scandal<\/em> Kerry Washington) you\u2019ll be picking out of the crowd in delight &#8211; even if they eventually make an abrupt exit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">That having been said, you should definitely be watching <em>Boston Legal<\/em>, through the magic of a Hulu subscription.
