Trump, whose pardon left critics confused<\/a> amid his administration\u2019s crackdown on drug trafficking in the U.S. and abroad, initially told a reporter on Sunday<\/a> that he didn\u2019t know who she meant when asked about pardoning a \u201cnotorious drug trafficker.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cYou know you\u2019ve been pardoning too many people when you\u2019re like, \u2018I\u2019m sorry, which notorious drug lord are we talking about? At least give me the first letter, or we\u2019ll be here all night!\u2019\u201d Johnson quipped.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After seemingly tying Hern\u00e1ndez\u2019s case to a \u201cBiden administration setup\u201d while offering no evidence to support such a claim, Trump attempted to clarify his decision to reporters further.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cYou take any country you want. If somebody sells drugs in that country, that doesn\u2019t mean you arrest the president and put him in jail for the rest of his life,\u201d Trump said. \u201cAnd that includes this country, OK, to be honest. I mean, if somebody does something wrong, do you put the president of the country in jail?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The clip was met with cheers and applause from the \u201cDaily Show\u201d crowd.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cClearly, Trump is worried about a slippery slope here. It\u2019s like that classic poem: \u2018First, they came<\/a> for the wildly corrupt presidents, and I said nothing, because that would be admissible in court,\u2019\u201d said Johnson in a nod to the famous post-World War II poem.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
