Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, the Japanese-American actor know for his appearances in hit franchises such as \u201cMortal Kombat,\u201d \u201cJames Bond\u201d and \u201cPlanet of the Apes,\u201d has died at 75. <\/p>\n

The actor died due to complications from a stroke, according to the Hollywood Reporter.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI had the privilege of representing Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa for many years as his long time manager, but our relationship grew into something far deeper \u2014 he became like family,\u201d Tagawa\u2019s manager Margie Weiner said in a statement sent to the Hollywood Reporter. \u201cCary was a rare soul: generous, thoughtful, and endlessly committed to his craft. His loss is immeasurable. My heart is with his family, friends, and all who loved him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tagawa was born in Tokyo in 1950 and moved around the United States frequently as a child. His father was in the U.S. Army and his mother was an actress from Tokyo, according to his IMDb biography.<\/a><\/p>\n

Achieving a breakthrough as the eunuch Chang in 1987\u2019s \u201cThe Last Emperor,\u201d <\/i>he would go on to make an appearance in the James Bond film \u201cLicense to Kill.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tagawa is best known for his role as evil sorcerer Shang Tsung in the 1995 film \u201cMortal Kombat,\u201d a role he reprised in the 2011 TV show \u201cMortal Kombat: Legacy\u201d and the video game \u201cMortal Kombat 11.\u201d <\/p>\n

He also starred in other major films, including \u201cPearl Harbor,\u201d \u201cPlanet of the Apes,\u201d \u201c47 Ronin,\u201d \u201cElektra\u201d and \u201cMemoirs of a Geisha.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tagawa is survived by his wife, Sally, their three children, Calen, Brynne and Cana, and two grandchildren, according to The Hollywood Reporter.<\/p>\n
