First, Colbert recapped how Hegseth used the app to share highly sensitive war plans<\/a> in a text chain that included Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic. A new report<\/a> from the Pentagon\u2019s acting inspector general argued that Hegseth\u2019s actions could have led to \u201cfailed U.S. mission objectives and potential harm to U.S. pilots.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s surprising. Usually, to endanger the lives of American troops, Hegseth uses an ax,\u201d Colbert quipped as he aired a throwback clip<\/a> of the former Fox News<\/a> host hurling an ax on live TV and hitting a member of the West Point Hellcats marching band. The man later sued<\/a> Hegseth.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The \u201cLate Show\u201d crowd reacted to the clip with a massive groan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
