The R-rated boxing biopic grossed just $1.3 million during its opening weekend, making it one of the worst wide-release openings in recent movie history. Despite generating festival buzz, the film, which tells the story of decorated former pro boxer Christy \u201cThe Coal Miner\u2019s Daughter\u201d Martin<\/strong> and the domestic abuse she overcame at the hands of her trainer and husband Jim Martin<\/strong>, failed to find an audience in theaters.<\/p>\n Black Bear Pictures<\/span><\/p>\n Still, the 28-year-old star took the TKO like a champ. \u201cThank you to everyone who saw, felt and believed and will believe in this story for years to come,\u201d she wrote in a Nov. 10 Instagram<\/a> post. \u201cIf Christy gave even one woman the courage to take her first step toward safety, then we will have succeeded.\u201d The actress went on to say that she was still \u201cproud\u201d of the film. \u201cWhy? The movie is out of the Oscar race and audiences have rejected it.\u201d After transforming himself into Nebraska-era Bruce and learning to sing and play the guitar, for the time being, the 34-year-old, is \u201cdone playing living, breathing legends,\u201d adds the source. \u201cHe\u2019s going back to the drawing board.\u201d<\/p>\n Star power is no longer enough.
