Dear \u201cSurvivor\u201d 49 castaways, please stop calling Jeff Probst Uncle Jeff, Uncle J, Uncle Jeffrey and\/or any other iteration you come up with!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Perhaps it was the Season 49 premiere of \u201cSurvivor\u201d or its second episode when I first heard a castaway refer to the host in this way. I have hated this new moniker ever since.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The new nickname seems to mostly be said by Jawan Pitts and Kristina Mills, two of the Black contestants on this season. I am desperately hoping it does not catch on with the other players. I\u2019ve always hated when Black people invite white people to the proverbial \u201ccookout\u201d once they have been deemed cool enough, and this feels like an extension of that. He doesn\u2019t need to be your \u201cuncle.\u201d He\u2019s just Jeff!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Probst addressed his new name in September, and he seems to love it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI don\u2019t know where that came from. I think that\u2019s just a coincidence this season,\u201d Probst told Dalton Ross, the editorial director of <\/span>Entertainment Weekly<\/span><\/a>. \u201cBut it\u2019s better than granddad. I was called a \u2018grandad\u2019 by Dee [Valladares] after she won. And we\u2019re here at the after show and she said to me, \u2018Jeff, this is really surreal. I grew up with you; you were like a father figure, I mean, now it\u2019s more like a granddad.\u2019 So I\u2019ll take Uncle Jeff all day.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Even former \u201cSurvivor\u201d contestant Q rolls his eyes once he hears it. \u201cEvery single time I hear that, I just cringe,\u201d Q said on a <\/span>TikTok video<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Fans like me absolutely hate it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Please make it stop! I do NOT want to hear this phrase on Season 50.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cSurvivor\u201d 49 airs on Wednesdays and is streaming on Paramount+.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
