Prince Harry<\/a> has joked that life with the Royal Family<\/a> was \u201clike Downton Abbey<\/a>\u201d – but with more \u201cdrama\u201d than the hit show.<\/p>\n Speaking at the British American Business Council’s (BABC) LA lunch on Friday, the Duke of Sussex reportedly made a series of quips about the \u201cdrama and intrigue\u201d of his upbringing, as well as wearing kilts and the differences between the UK and the US.<\/p>\n He touched on the \u201cnew world\u201d of American life and 4 July festivities, joking that celebrating US independence was \u201cmore specifically, independence from my great, great, great, great, great, great-grandfather,\u201d reports People<\/em> magazine.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople sometimes ask if growing up with the Royal family<\/a> was a bit like Julian’s Downton Abbey,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, but only one of those worlds is filled with drama, intrigue, elaborate dinners, marriages to Americans – and the other is a TV show.\u201d<\/p>\n The jokes came as the event paid tribute to Downton Abbey creator Lord Julian Fellowes, who is also known for dramas Gosford Park and From Time to Time.<\/p>\n Prince Harry<\/a> also reportedly jested about US president Donald Trump\u2019s immigration policies and the upcoming World Cup during his speech, saying that his fellow Brits will have to get \u201cbehave, get through customs and past ICE\u201d to see England play in the tournament.<\/p>\n It comes after the Duke of Sussex made an unexpected appearance on Stephen Colbert\u2019s US talk show on Wednesday, appearing as a version of himself auditioning to play a \u201cChristmas prince\u201d in a Hallmark<\/a> movie.<\/p>\n During the segment he jibed at the US\u2019s \u201cobsession\u201d with royalty<\/a>, and quipped that the country had \u201celected a king\u201d, in reference to the president, which prompted a chorus of pantomime boos from the audience.<\/p>\n The joke appeared to be a reference to the non-violent \u201cNo Kings\u201d movement, protesting Trump\u2019s \u201cauthoritarian\u201d policies.<\/p>\n Harry and Meghan have lived in America since exiting the Royal Family in 2020.<\/p>\n The couple, who met in 2016 and married in 2018, kept their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles, but are no longer addressed as His or Her Royal Highness (HRH).<\/p>\n In May, Harry said he \u201cmisses the UK\u201d but that since losing his legal case<\/a> with the Home Office over his level of security, he was not planning on returning with his family. He added that his father King Charles refused to speak to him because of his legal battles over his security entitlement while visiting the UK.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
