Julia Roberts<\/strong><\/a> and Sean Penn<\/strong><\/a> reunited for Variety & celebrity.land\u2019s Actors on Actors <\/a>season 23.<\/p>\n

Roberts, 58, and Penn, 65, appeared on the Saturday, December 6, episode of the series, where they discussed their respective roles in After the Hunt and One Battle After Another and their individual careers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m thinking back to New York \u2014 the Mayflower Hotel during the shooting of The Pope of Greenwich Village,\u201d Penn recalled of meeting Roberts. \u201cYou were Eric\u2019s little sister. I\u2019d heard about you, but you must have been a teenager.\u201d<\/p>\n

Penn appeared in 1984\u2019s The Pope of Greenwich Village\u00a0alongside Julia\u2019s older brother, fellow actor Eric Roberts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cYes. I still am,\u201d Julia responded.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tJulia Roberts is still smitten with husband Danny Moder after 23 years of marriage! The After the Hunt star, 57, gushed over her man in an interview with Entertainment Tonight published on Sunday, September 28, as she and costars Andrew Garfield and Ayo Edebiri were asked about the \u201celement that brings you joy.\u201d \u201cIn life?\u201d [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Julia and Penn have more in common than just decades of friendship and her brother, but also Julia\u2019s husband, Danny Moder.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI think you\u2019re phenomenal,\u201d Penn gushed. \u201cMy mom always used to light up when you would come around, and then you\u2019ve got this great husband, who\u2019s my favorite cinematographer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Julia further joked that she and Penn share a \u201clove\u201d for Moder, 56.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember him telling me you were doing a movie and Danny was handholding a camera,\u201d Penn added. \u201cHe\u2019s focused on his work and getting in a corner, followed by the description, \u2018That was the sexiest thing on earth.’\u201d<\/p>\n

The two actors also previously worked together on the 2022 Starz limited series Gaslit, where they portrayed married couple Martha and John Mitchell.<\/p>\n

\u201cSean Penn is just the best in the game,\u201d Julia told Entertainment Weekly<\/a> in April 2022. \u201cAnd he took it on with such predictable vigor. To watch him go through the transformation and so fully inhabit John Mitchell, and for us to talk about the Mitchells and their relationship, was a thrill for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Steel Magnolias actress explained how she and Penn were focused on accurately portraying the married couple, based on the real-life counterparts involved in the Watergate scandal.<\/p>\n

\u201cSean and I were both interested in how to excavate the little details of their relationship so that you could appreciate that these two people really did love each other,\u201d Julia said. \u201cIt was almost like there were two of each of us: our characters when they were together, and then our characters when they were with other people. It was pretty fascinating, the things he accomplished. I was really in awe all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Creator Robbie Pickering<\/strong> also praised Penn\u2019s performance in the show, which earned him a Hollywood Critics Association Awards nomination for Best Actor in a Broadcast Network or Cable Limited or Anthology Series.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the most underrated aspect of any great Sean Penn performance is his vulnerability and his humanity,\u201d Pickering said. \u201cI was fortunate that Sean Penn just really wanted to show the warmth and humanity of this guy, as well as the evil of him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Julia and Penn were friends for many years before teaming up for Gaslit.<\/p>\n
