Once he learns that his biological father, a crotchety publisher played by the late James Caan, is on the naughty list, he travels to New York City in hopes of righting his family\u2019s wrongs and learning about his parentage. <\/p>\n<p>Today, cheap replicas of the costume are often worn by pedicab drivers in the Big Apple during the holiday season.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cElf\u201d follows a man named Buddy as he tries to reconnect with his father, a grinchy publisher who is on Santa Claus\u2019 naughty list. <span class=\"credit\">\u00a9New Line Cinema\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While the auction did boast props from celebrated Christmas films, including \u201cThe Nightmare Before Christmas\u201d and \u201cMickey\u2019s Christmas Carol,\u201d there was no apparent theme. <\/p>\n<p>The heavy hitters in the auction hailed from some of Hollywood\u2019s most successful franchises. A fedora worn by Harrison Ford in \u201cIndiana Jones and the Temple of Doom\u201d sold for just over $437,000 and bounty hunter Boba Fett\u2019s EE-3 carbine blaster from \u201cStar Wars: The Empire Strikes Back\u201d went for around $613,000, according to the auction house.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/11\/09\/will-ferrells-elf-costume-sells-for-a-staggering-sum\/\">another copy of Buddy\u2019s elf costume<\/a> sold to an anonymous buyer for $296,702. <\/p>\n<p>In November 2003, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2003\/11\/19\/its-elf-by-bidding-no-kidding\/\">Santa\u2019s sleigh went up for auction<\/a> just one week after \u201cElf\u201d was released in theaters.
