The tally of 20 was the most for any print-based publication in the 2025 competition, sponsored by the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/los-angeles-press-club\/\" id=\"auto-tag_los-angeles-press-club\" data-tag=\"los-angeles-press-club\">Los Angeles Press Club<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAmong the accolades was a win for Print Journalist of the Year for chief music critic and senior writer Chris Willman, one of five awards he picked up this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAlso scoring first-place prizes for writing and reporting were Kate Aurthur, Leo Barraclough, Daniel D\u2019Addario, Clayton Davis, Matt Donnelly, Owen Gleiberman, Brent Lang, Kristen Lopez, Naman Ramachandran, Michael Schneider and Michaela Zee. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tJennifer Dorn, Haley Kluge, deputy photo editor Jennifer Halper, Emilio Madrid, Richard Maltz and Joe Toreno were top finishers, as well, rewarded for their work on the magazine\u2019s art and photography.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA cover package on Taylor Swift\u2019s Eras Tour proved popular with judges. Willman won for Best Music Feature for his cover story on Swift (\u201cHow Taylor Swift\u2019s Eras Tour Took Over the Entire World\u201d), which involved covering the blockbuster tour\u2019s impact overseas. An award for Best Cover Art went to the team of Dorn, Kluge, Maltz and Toreno, for a specially crafted image that had the \u201cbiggest tour of all time\u201d theme spelled out in the form of friendship bracelets. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tPhoto editor Dorn and creative director Kluge were repeat winners, scoring along with Halper and Madrid in the category of Portrait Photo, Music\/Theater\/Arts for a photograph of Darren Criss and Cole Escola.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tExecutive editor Brent Lang was a two-time winner this year, too, picking up an award for Business\/Film\/Print for \u201cNetflix\u2019s Origin Story: How the Streamer Killed Blockbuster Video, Snagged \u2018House of Cards\u2019 From HBO and Changed Hollywood Forever\u201d and another for Commentary Analysis\/Trend, Film, Print for \u201cHow Steven Spielberg\u2019s \u2018Jaws\u2019 Endured a Hellish Production to Become Hollywood\u2019s First Summer Blockbuster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tChief correspondent Daniel D\u2019Addario picked up the award for Best Theater\/Performing Arts Critic for his stage reviews from throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tChief film critic Owen Gleiberman was the recipient of the prize for Obituary\/In Appreciation, Film Personalities for his remembrance \u201cRemembering Val Kilmer, a Powerful Actor Who Remained a Reluctant Movie Star.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA second prize for an appreciation of a sadly missed entertainer went to editor-at-large Kate Aurthur in the category of Obituary\/In Appreciation, TV Personalities for her piece \u201cRemembering Shannen Doherty: A Gen X Icon Who Fought Like Hell to Live.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tExecutive editor for TV Michael Schneider was the recipient of the Hard News, TV\/Streaming award for \u201cL.A. Reporters Cover Devastation in Their Own Neighborhoods During Wildfires: \u2018Feels Like a Nightmare\u2019 and \u2018Fatigue Is Setting In\u2019.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tChief awards editor Clayton Davis won Commentary Analysis\/Trend, Online for his column \u201cTony Hinchcliffe Called Puerto Rico a \u2018Floating Island of Garbage\u2019: His Hate Disguised as Comedy Wasn\u2019t Funny or a Joke.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSenior entertainment &amp; media writer Matt Donnelly picked up the trophy for Hard News, Film, Online for his article \u201cMike De Luca and Pam Abdy Under Fire at Warner Bros. Amid Box Office Flops: \u2018We Didn\u2019t Want to Fail\u2019 David Zaslav.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe award for Personality Profile, Film Industry, Online went to international reporter Naman Ramachandran for his piece \u201cDeepa Mehta on 30 Years of Boundary-Breaking Cinema: Facing Down Protests, Hanging Up on George Lucas and Her $1 Deal With Salman Rushdie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAssociate web editor Michaela Zee won Film Feature, Production\/History\u2014Below-the-line Creatives for her story on a composer\u2019s latest work, \u201cHow Alexandre Desplat Crafted the Score for Wes Anderson\u2019s \u2018The Phoenician Scheme.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLondon-based international features editor Leo Barraclough was the recipient of the award for Film Feature, Production\/History\u2014Above-the-line Creatives, for his piece \u201c\u2018Mr. Nobody Against Putin\u2019 Director on Lifting the Lid on Kremlin Pro-War Propaganda in Sundance Documentary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFreelance contributor Kristen Lopez picked up the prize for Diversity in the Film Industry, Online for her story \u201cDisabled Performers Advocate for Allies in Hollywood: \u2018Inclusion Needs to Be a Movement and Not a Moment\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBesides Print Journalist and Music Feature, Willman\u2019s other wins were for Best Columnist, Online; Commentary Analysis\/Trend, Music, for \u201cStop Blaming \u2018Celebrity Endorsements\u2019 for Kamala Harris\u2019 Loss: We Need to Hear From Artists Now More Than Ever\u201d; and Music Feature, Group\/Industry Artists, for \u201cShania Twain and Brandi Carlile on Teaming Up for an All-Female-Headliner Festival, and Why Women Supporting Women Is Always \u2018Right on Time\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<em>Variety<\/em> was additionally honored with dozens of second- and third-place honors in the 2025 NAEJ competition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe ceremony was held at the Millennium Biltmore, where the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/l-a-press-club\/\" id=\"auto-tag_l-a-press-club\" data-tag=\"l-a-press-club\">L.A.
